The International Health Economics Association (IHEA) is launching a search for its next Executive Director, a pivotal leadership role guiding the strategic and operational direction of the world’s leading professional community for health economists.
The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors, the Director of Association Operations, an Association Management Company, and members around the globe to implement IHEA’s strategic vision, strengthen its operations, and ensure the continued excellence of its programs and governance.

What the role involves:
The Executive Director will lead on four fronts:
- Implementing and revitalizing IHEA’s strategic plan: driving the plan’s execution, working with the Board and membership to regularly refresh it, developing new member initiatives, and overseeing the Special Interest Groups, mentoring and fellowship programs, and awards
- Providing leadership for the biennial Congress: leading planning, coordination, and delivery, including site selection, and working closely with the Scientific Committee, Local Organizing Committee, and Director of Association Operations
- Organizational operations: overseeing day-to-day operations in collaboration with the Director of Association Operations and Association Management Company, including membership systems, communications, and technology
- Governance and financial oversight: supporting strong governance across the Association, advancing fundraising (particularly for Congress), and overseeing budget development, financial management, and audits with the accountant and Finance Committee
Who we’re looking for:
We’re seeking a collaborative, mission-driven leader with a postgraduate degree in health economics, economics, or a related discipline (a PhD is a plus), and experience working as a health economist engaging with colleagues across multiple countries. Candidates should bring proven senior leadership experience with organization-wide responsibility, ideally in a non-profit, academic, professional association, or comparable international setting, along with a track record managing complex programs and working with volunteer boards or committees. Demonstrated financial literacy, strong written and verbal communication skills across cultures and time zones, and a genuine commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in health economics round out the profile we’re looking for.
