This webinar will explore how health financing decisions influence the efficiency of health systems and countries’ progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Bringing together international experts from the World Bank, the Health Intervention and Technology Assessment Program (HITAP) in Thailand, and the Egypt Healthcare Authority, the discussion will examine practical experiences related to priority setting, strategic purchasing, resource allocation, health financing reforms, evidence-informed policymaking, and the governance factors that shape health system performance. The session will combine country and cross-country perspectives to generate practical lessons for improving health system efficiency and supporting sustainable progress toward UHC.
Speakers
Prof. Wanrudee Isaranuwatchai – Health Intervention and Technology Assessment Program (HITAP), Thailand
Prof. Isaranuwatchai will discuss how health technology assessment (HTA) and economic evidence inform priority setting, benefit package design, coverage decisions, and resource allocation, drawing particularly on Thailand’s experience.
Dr. Nouran El Desouky – Ministry of Finance, EgyptÂ
Dr. El Desouky will focus on strategic purchasing and health financing reform in practice, including provider payment, budgeting, resource allocation, and implementation challenges in Egypt.
Denizhan Duran – Senior Health Economist, World Bank
Denizhan Duran will provide a World Bank and cross-country perspective on how health financing architecture, institutional decision-making, and efficiency evidence influence financing decisions, health system reforms, and progress toward UHC, including relevant perspectives from Latin America and the Caribbean.
