Countdown to IHEA 2027 Congress – Santiago, Chile

Sernatur Valparaíso – Imagen de Chile

Abstract Submissions Opening Soon!

Have you ever wanted to present your research at an IHEA Congress? Here’s your chance. IHEA is pleased to invite you to join us at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago, Chile for the 17th World Congress on Health Economics. The pre-congress sessions will take place July 10–11, followed by the main Congress from July 11–14, 2027.

Please note that our call for abstracts is briefly delayed, but submissions will now open in early September. We will notify you immediately as soon as the portal becomes available. In the meantime, we encourage you to start preparing your application now so you are ready to apply!

We would like to encourage researchers to make submissions in the form of an individual abstract or an organized session. Submissions can focus on any aspect of health economics research, but they must be based on research that applies economics to a health or health system issue. The deadline to submit is November 10th, 2026.

To foster diversity and promote submission of high-quality abstracts, each person will be restricted to submitting only two abstracts where they are the presenter. This could include:

  • two individual abstracts,
  • one individual abstract and one as part of an organized session, or
  • two paper presentations as part of two organized sessions.

Submissions will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee and the outcomes of the review process will be announced in early March 2027. Information on health economics fields, sub-fields and other aspects of abstract submission is available here. For any enquiries about the submission process, please contact ihea@healtheconomics.org.

We look forward to having you participate in our congress in Santiago next year!

Did You Know? Behind Every Congress Is a Review Panel

Every abstract and organized session submitted to an IHEA Congress is reviewed by the Scientific Committee’s Review Panel — a group of researchers whose expertise together covers the whole discipline, from health care financing to economic evaluation to health system performance. With planning for the 2027 Congress in Santiago now well underway, we need this Panel in place to help build a program that does justice to the field.

If you have a track record of research publications, consider putting your name forward for the Review Panel. We’d particularly love to hear from mid-career researchers. The panel will reflect a strong balance of geography and gender, along with solid coverage across the discipline’s fields and sub-fields.

Expressions of interest close September 15, 2026. Full details are below.

The Executive Director works alongside the Board, the Director of Association Operations, and members worldwide to advance IHEA’s strategic plan, lead Congress planning, oversee day-to-day operations, and support strong governance and financial management.

Bylaws Update

As part of our ongoing commitment to strong governance, IHEA has been reviewing our Bylaws to better support how our Board operates across time zones and regions. Key changes introduce a hybrid meeting format, allowing Directors to participate live or cast an electronic vote within a set window afterward. This way no one is excluded based on where in the world they live. The updates also clarify quorum requirements and notice procedures to ensure these changes are transparent and consistently applied.

This revision makes participation more accessible for Directors joining us from around the world, while keeping our governance practices transparent and accountable to our members.

You can view our revised Bylaws below.
