Overview: The mission of the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI) is to accelerate the development of promising malaria vaccines and ensure their availability and accessibility in the developing world. MVI works with researchers, companies, governments, and partner organizations to accomplish its mission.
MVI intends to further strengthen its ability to analyze the cost and financial implications of future malaria vaccines, in parallel with each vaccine’s development and clinical trial processes. Duties and responsibilities:
- Liaise with MVI and PATH staff and collaborators working on the research and development of vaccine candidates so that economics inform product development activities.

Qualifications: The successful candidate for this position will have global health experience, ideally in the economic analysis of malaria or immunization interventions in the public sector of developing countries; She/he will have:
- Doctoral level degree in economics or equivalent in experience.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years experience as an economist, with majority of that experience focused on developing countries.
- Extensive experience working with public health programs at country, regional and global levels.

The European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research, a UN-affiliated intergovernmental organisation, has a vacancy for a full-time research associate to work on a broad range of issues of long-term care policies for older persons in international comparisons, including financing issues, challenges of ageing populations, and the interface of long-term care with health care and other social policies.
Responsibilities include
- International comparative research in efficiency and effectiveness of long-term care provision;
- Analysis of long-term care policy in the context of wider economic and social trends and in the context of European Union policies;
- Contribute to the development of internationally comparable information on long-term care systems and policy trends;
- Management of and communication with networks of researchers and experts in countries of the UN-ECE region; co-operation with other regional and international organisations;
- Contribute to the design of research proposals and to fund-raising activities;
- Contribute to the organisation of meetings and to the dissemination of findings in publications and at international events.
Qualification and experience
- PhD, Master’s degree or equivalent work experience in economics, statistics, public policy or related fields;
- At least three to five years of applied research, including experience with project management in relevant fields;
- Experience with international comparative research, e.g. on European Union level; and with national or international administrations would be an advantage;
- Good knowledge of national and international data sources and of the organisation of health care, social care and other social statistics;
- Excellent drafting skills in English. Working knowledge of other languages would be an advantage;
- Very good computer literacy and proven experience with organising and analysing data.

We are recruiting throughout 2006. We seek six people, in four positions to join our dynamic, rapidly growing company:
Health Outcomes Analyst (HOA): Permanent, to £28K. You will be responsible for analysis and interpretation of health outcomes data, and the production of systematic literature reviews and pharmaceutical reimbursement dossiers.
Health Economics Modeller (HEM): Permanent, to £50K. You will apply your economic modelling expertise in the development of complex models using the latest software.
Health Economist (HE): Permanent, to £50K. You will apply your HEOR knowledge to design and manage health economics projects.
Database Programmer (DP): Minimum of six-month contract, to £25K. Your role will include the enhancement of an existing analytical Access database and assistance in HE modelling.
A relevant first degree is required, although a PhD is desirable for the HE roles. Ideally, this should be complemented by relevant agency, industry or academic experience.
