The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) at the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level that will contribute to the department’s research and educational programs involving the organization, financing, and delivery of health services. The department seeks candidates who have strong research expertise and interest in developing their career as funded health services research investigators. Candidates should be qualified to teach graduate-level courses in health policy and health services administration, with expertise in health economics and/or finance desirable for at least one of the positions.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in one of the relevant social, health, or management sciences. A strong record of research publications with either a record of extramural funding, or evidence of the ability to develop such a record, is also required. Experience in teaching at the graduate level and engaging in research translation and public service is also highly desirable.
The candidate will become part of a multidisciplinary department that offers accredited MHSA, MPH, and PhD degree programs and supports a college-wide DrPH degree in public health leadership. The College of Public Health was created in 2001 with a portion of the state’s tobacco settlement funds and a public mandate to conduct education and research supporting health improvement. The department has a rapidly growing portfolio of research that includes studies in health economics, health disparities, rural health, public health delivery systems, long-term care and quality improvement. We offer a collaborative work environment and productive partnerships with the UAMS Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Related Professions as well as state health agencies, health care providers, business and law schools, and other academic institutions. Strong opportunities for collaboration exist with UAMS’ academic units and centers of excellence: the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging withseven satellite Centers on Aging spanning the state, the Stephens Spine Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute, the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, and the NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Research Center. UAMS’ statewide presence is enhanced through eight regional Area Health Education Centers (AHECs) and strong relationships with other Arkansas academic campuses. The COPH also has established the following centers and programs to focus its researchand educational initiatives: the Center for the Study of Tobacco Addiction, the Center for the Study of Obesity, the NIH-funded Arkansas Center for Health Disparities, and CDC-funded Arkansas Prevention Research Center, and the RWJF-funded Public Health Practice-Based Research Networks Program.
