You will be a member of an outstanding team of health economists/modellers in the Wessex Institute who support the production of high quality research related to the economic evaluation of health technologies, and research on methodological developments related to economic evaluation and health economics. You will be enthusiastic with a good knowledge of economics.
Scope exists for training in health economics for appointment at the junior level, the salary for which is from £27,319 to £33,600. For appointment as a senior health economist you will be expected to have experience in economic evaluation, salary from £34,607 £43,840. Appointment will depend on qualifications and experience.

The appointment will be for three years in the first instance with excellent prospects for further extension.

Two Health Economists: National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health at The Royal College of Psychiatrists and University College London

Developing evidence-based mental health guidelines for the National Institute for Health and Clinical Effectiveness (NICE), the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH) is a partnership between the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the British Psychological Society’s Centre for Outcomes, Research and Effectiveness (CORE) at University College London.
This is a very exciting opportunity to work with internationally recognised experts in mental health in a centre which has a world-class reputation. Guidelines currently in progress include autism in adults, anxiety, psychosis with substance misuse, self-harm, alcohol dependence, schizophrenia in children, conduct disorder and social phobia.
The team would like to recruit
Two Health Economists (Three-year fixed term contracts)
Applications are invited for two Health Economists to join our team, one based at the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the other at University College London. Each Health Economist will have major responsibility for advising on health economics in NICE mental health guidelines. Both will form part of a small group of Health Economists and will work as members of guideline development groups that include researchers, clinicians, patients, carers and NCCMH staff. Working on two guidelines at once, you will review and synthesize current economic evidence to inform decisions in each guideline. These projects work to demanding time-scales, with many components and many contributors. As well as knowledge and experience of a range of health economic methods including modelling, the ability to present information clearly and draft reports to a tight timescale will be advantageous.

I am looking for a personable, hard worker who has experience in either Academia, Consultancy or Pharma in a Health Economist role either in the UK or Europe.
- A MSc in health economics; or a MSc or PhD in a related discipline (such as health services research, public health, epidemiology or science) with a significant health economic evaluation component
- Knowledge of decision analytical modelling of healthcare interventions and cost effectiveness analysis
- Recent experience at senior management level with a proven track record of using professional knowledge to lead a team effectively and bring about change
- Demonstrates the full range of leadership qualities, skills and behaviours
- High level of communication skills will be required to engage NHS senior managers, clinicians and patients/clients in highly complex discussions and analyses of evidence. This includes highly developed interpersonal, negotiation, influencing and conflict management skills

- Participating in appropriate training and development activities and encouraging and supporting the development and training of the Health Economists
