The National Collaborating Centre for Cancer (NCC-C) is a leading research centre producing evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for the NHS in England, Wales and Northern Ireland aimed at improving patient care. The NCC-C, which is based in Cardiff city centre, is funded by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and hosted by Velindre NHS Trust and works in partnership with Cardiff University and other key organisations, representing relevant health professions and patient groups.

NICE clinical guidelines are their most frequently accessed products and have an international reputation for excellence. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-professional team of experienced and enthusiastic specialists working at a national level and make a leading contribution to the research programme in support of NICE clinical guidelines.

The post holder will contribute to the strategic aims of the NCC-C by providing advice and leadership on all health economic aspects of clinical guideline development undertaken at the Centre and will be responsible for the line management and professional development of the two junior Health Economists within the team. The post holder will also be eligible to apply for an honorary research fellowship at Cardiff University and on-going academic advice and support will be provided by the Health Economics and Policy Unit at the University of Glamorgan.

Applicants must have an MSc in health economics; or an MSc or PhD in a related discipline with a strong health economic component with experience of economic evaluation of healthcare technologies. Applicants must have experience of health economic analysis, evidence-based healthcare, critical appraisal and multidisciplinary team working. The role requires a high degree of technical competency across a range of disciplines. It involves critical evaluation of a range of research evidence on cost effectiveness to inform the work of the guideline development groups by providing clear written reports and presentations and by participating in discussions.
