The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) is the Nation’s federal health sciences university and is committed to excellence in military medicine and public health during peace and war. The Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics (PMB), Division of Health Services Administration, at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) in Bethesda, Maryland seeks a qualified candidate for a tenure track Assistant Professor position. The Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics, one of the nation’s largest, is comprised of six divisions, two medical residency programs, more than 65 full-time faculty members, and over 200 additional adjunct faculty engaged in a wide variety of research projects relevant to public health. PMB has research relationships with institutions in several locations worldwide, including Department of Defense medical laboratories in Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, Peru, and Thailand, as well as with the National Institutes of Health and others.
Duties: The incumbent will be filling a position with teaching responsibilities in our Graduate Programs, Masters in Public Health (MPH) and Masters in Healthcare Administration and Policy (MHAP) degree programs. Teaching expectations include a maximum of one course per quarter (three quarters per Academic Year). Research relating to health care economics, public policy, population health and/or health services delivery is expected. Support for research activities will be provided initially from an existing intramural research program, while the candidate is expected to pursue extramural research funding for support of long term research activities.
Qualifications Requirements: The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of a M.D. or Ph.D. degree plus substantial experience in graduate and medical school teaching or educational administration. The optimal candidate will demonstrate expertise in health care economics and related fields of policy and planning. Experience with large health care claims databases is desirable.
The duties of this position pertain to the education and orientation of DoD personnel. The selected candidate must be a US citizen and be able to obtain and maintain a non-critical security clearance. If the selectee is unable to meet the requirements of a security background investigation, the tentative offer of employment will be rescinded. If employment has started, the selectee may be discharged.
