Warwick Medical School (WMS) wishes to appoint an ambitious and experienced senior researcher to an exciting tenured post in health economics at one of the UKs leading universities. The post holder will contribute to the vision of WMS to continue its upward trajectory in establishing international research excellence. The post holder will work with the new Professor of Health Economics, who will take up his post in the Warwick Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) in September 2010, and develop a personal research programme. The aim will be to establish Warwick CTU, and more broadly WMS, as a leading institution in health economics research nationally and internationally. Emphasis will be placed on leading high quality economic evaluations and research alongside large Phase III clinical trials and within health technology appraisal reviews.
It is anticipated that the post holder will also collaborate with colleagues in the Universities Economics Department, which is widely regarded as one of the top university Economics Departments in the UK and Europe in terms of its teaching and research. Potential areas of collaboration with colleagues in the Economics Department include the development of new approaches to the measurement and valuation of health and well-being, and the application of econometric techniques to health survey datasets. There is also an expectation that the Economics Department will invest in this area to help achieve the overall aim of building further strength in economic aspects of health and well-being and, more broadly, in health economics.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to an MSc module on health economics, the teaching of the subject in the undergraduate medical curriculum and play a key role in the supervision of research degree students. WMS has an excellent undergraduate teaching and postgraduate programme. It was also the first UK Medical School to introduce a graduate entry medical undergraduate programme.
