Epidemiologist: Center for Epidemiology and Database Analytics (CEDA)

Location: London, UK

As an Epidemiologist you will undertake project management and some PI responsibilities; participate in complex epidemiology projects, including analyses, and responsible for project management; also responsible for some aspects of consultation work. You will be expected to liaise with European data providers and researchers thereby increasing UBC’s study capabilities.

Job responsibilities

  • High scientific input in the design and implementation of selected database studies, literature reviews, and other epidemiology studies; conceptualizes study protocols, statistical analysis plans and writing of draft reports.
  • Performs data management and analyses or manages a data analyst tasks of patient selection, variable creation, and statistical analysis on selected database projects.
  • Draft project deliverables (reports, protocols, literature reviews, tables, etc…) pending review by senior HCA staff and draft abstracts and manuscripts as lead or co-author.
  • often working as PM versus PI [for information: PI has responsibility for final budget, project timeline responsibility and delivery].
  • Support other HCA “non-billable” activities as needed (e.g. draft proposals; supervise Research Assistant or Research Associate I/II; closely collaborate with other UBC business units; lead some efforts as HCA representative).

Computer programming or software skills required for position

MS Word, PPT, Excel; familiarity with data analysis software (SAS, Stata) is preferred.

Specific skills or knowledge required for the position

Deep understanding of epidemiological research principles and familiarity with key aspects of the literature (historical and current); advanced level of understanding of relevant epidemiological methodology and statistics and their application to pharmacoepidemiology; extensive knowledge of practical research implementation; good presentation and communication skills. Awareness of the use of epidemiology in drug safety.

Education level

PhD; or Masters with greater than five years of experience; or Bachelors with greater than seven years of experience plus relevant coursework
