Location: Birmingham, UK
Department: Health Economics Unit, School of Health and Population Sciences
Term: Fixed term post for 3 years in the first instance
Closing date: 30 April 2010
Reference number: 46809
The Health Economics Unit of the School of Health and Populations Sciences, University of Birmingham seeks a health economist at Research Fellow (Grade 7) to undertake research activities in the areas of women’s and sexual health.
As a result of a number of successes in grant proposals to the NIHR and NCCHTA there is an exciting opportunity for a health economic researcher to carry out research into women’s and sexual health. This post comprises three related projects, two of which are interlinked by both the clinical focus and by the researchers who comprise the multi-disciplinary teams involved. The first project contributes to a successful NIHR programme grant, and is in collaboration with Bart’s Hospital London. The study aims to explore alternative methods for increasing sexual health service uptake by men. An example of a sub project within this programme is one that accesses young men in sport with assistance from football trainers to promote sexual health screening. A related project, the result of a successful grant application to the NCCHTA and in collaboration with the University of Brighton, requires an economic evaluation alongside a randomised controlled trial comparing alternative methods of partner notification for Chlamydia screening. The third project aims to develop an existing decision tree model to explore diagnostic strategies for abnormal uterine bleeding.
The successful candidate will gain the opportunity of working with the best clinical specialists in the respective fields. The post holder will be based in the Health Economics Unit (HEU) in the School of Health and Population Sciences.
The Health Economics Unit and its setting in the College of Medical & Dental Sciences provide a stimulating research and teaching environment with a commitment to the twin goals of high standards and policy relevance in all of our activities.
