Health Economist, Research Track Faculty position: Yale School of Public Health
Location: New Haven, Connecticut, USA
The Division of Health Policy, Yale School of Public Health and the Center for Analytic Sciences (YCAS) are seeking a faculty member with a PhD in Health Economics or related area (e.g. medical decision making). The faculty member will work with the both groups and will collaborate with clinical and other investigators at the Yale Medical School on economic evaluations and cost-effectiveness studies. The position involves consultation, collaboration and support for clinical researchers as well as developing one’s own independent research projects. Some teaching of young investigators is required; teaching of Masters students is an option.
Required: Doctoral degree in Health Economics or related areas with expertise in economic evaluations; cost-effectiveness analysis and/or decision analysis in public health and medicine; excellent econometric and programming skills. Grant writing experience is a plus.

Senior Consultants and Global Project Leaders have explicit recognition as senior team members with management responsibility for the on-time delivery of creative cost-effective proposals, projects or components of multi country large, complex HEOR projects, and for some or all of the deliverables of the project team. They are responsible for mentoring, coaching and development of more junior staff within and outside project teams - including multiple countries where applicable.
Candidates are expected to have proven direct or related experience in consulting and consulting methodologies, tools and techniques within the pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry as well as in managing complex, sometimes multi-country projects. A strong grounding in outcomes research/economics/health economics is essential as is knowledge of key issues and developments within the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.
All applicants should have:
- A postgraduate qualification in health economics, health services research, epidemiology or a related, relevant discipline;
- An understanding of economics and health economics;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Good organisational skills and the ability to balance multiple projects;
- Proven experience in working in HEOR to project management/line management level
- Proven and well developed management skills and client influencing and consultative relationship building skills within the healthcare industry
- Excellent understanding of international health care environment
- Ability to manage complex, multiple projects, juggle priorities and deliver on tight deadlines
- Highly numerate and good quantitative skills
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Commercial awareness
- Fluent spoken and written business English.

HTAcademy - Pfizer's Scholarship program for up-and-coming scientists in the area of Health Technology Assessment
Location: Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland
Submission deadline: April 7, 2010
From now until April 7, 2010, up-and-coming scientists from Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland are invited to apply for the HTAcademy scholarship. It is the goal of the HTAcademy to promote the further development of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) as an important instrument for the evaluation of medical technologies and services.
The scholarship program is announced once a year. Each participating country will award a national scholarship of €5000 to an up-and-coming scientist whose work contributes substantially to the further development of the HTA concept. The successful European candidate will be chosen from the national winners based on the most promising scientific project. In addition to the national scholarship, he or she will receive the European HTAcademy scholarship in the amount of €20,000.
The invitation is addressed to health economists, physicians, health scientists, psychologists and experts in other fields that deal with the evaluation of medical processes. This year’s thematic focus is on procedures and methodology of Health Technology Assessment.

Senior Research Analyst

Position Summary
The position is part of a strategic analytics team which focuses on providing analytic support to internal business partners across the CVS Caremark business units, presenting a unified view of the effects of the changing pharmacy landscape to the PBM and Retail arms of the company. The emphasis of the position is on developing and interpreting financial and outcomes models, while analyzing a variety of data including pharmacy and medical administrative claims. The position is responsible for leading and conducting all stages of analytic study: collaborating with multiple business partners to understand the underlying business need to formulate study specifications, guiding analytic dataset specification and preparation, planning and conducting statistical analysis, and interpreting analytic findings for business use.
The individual in this position will be responsible for handling multiple analytic requests and working with data analysts to create analytic datasets and reports. The individual will establish and maintain extensive knowledge of the existing and ongoing analytic efforts in the larger Analytics and Outcomes organization and serve as a liaison between the business partners and other analytic teams.
Qualifications
A dynamic individual with ability to effectively generate and test research hypotheses, identify analysis opportunities with potential business implications, interpret analytic findings verbally and visually.
Advanced knowledge and experience with data analysis and statistics, including regression and predictive modeling techniques.
Advanced knowledge of statistical software (SAS, SPSS, Stata)
Advanced skills with spreadsheets, database, and presentation software, including strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Superior problem solving and quantitative modeling skills combined with an ability to understand and relate business objectives.
Proven ability to identify relevant, rather than merely interesting, analytic results and communicate them in written, presentation, and oral form in a way that is easily understood by others who may not have the same technical background or expertise.
Strong project management skills, with ability to work independently on multiple projects with sometimes competing priorities.
Ability to respond quickly to new requests, proactively identifying and engaging resources from across the organization.
Education
MBA or advanced degree in health care sciences, finance, statistics, mathematics, economics, marketing or other quantitative field required with significant experience in analytics.
Experience
6+ years of professional analysis and research experience with additional experience in PBM/retail pharmacy data preferred.
Experience working with large datasets, such as claims or transaction data. Experience working with PBM and/or administrative medical claims data strongly preferred.
