Research Scientist: Health Economics and Technology Assessment Mid America Heart Institute (MAHI), Saint Luke's Hospital

Location: Kansas City, Minnesota

The Division of Cardiovascular Research at the Mid America Heart Institute of Saint Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City has a long-standing national reputation in the field of cardiovascular quality of care and health outcomes research. The Health Economics and Technology Assessment group at MAHI is involved in the evaluation of the economic impact and cost-effectiveness of new therapies for the treatment of heart and vascular disease.

The position:

Provide hands-on health economics and outcomes research support for all phases of research for the Health Economics and Technology Assessment group at the Mid-America Heart Institute (MAHI). For clinical trial and registry-based health economic/cost-effectiveness studies sponsored by both public and private sector, lead and/or participate in study design and protocol and analysis plan development, and dissemination of results in the form of reports, abstracts and publications. Review and provide input into clinical trial protocols and case report forms from a health economic perspective. Provide leadership and direct research support for the development of economic models to assess and support cost-effectiveness using available clinical evidence and cost parameters; carry out background research on clinical cost data to populate models appropriately. Maintain current knowledge of economic methodologies in assessments for cardiovascular health practice and policy.

Required background/experience:

Masters degree required, doctorate preferred, in health economics, health services research,epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or a related health field. Training in the conduct of cost-effectiveness studies, both model and trial-based, preferred. Advanced specialized training in econometric modeling a plus. Minimum 2+ years of professional experience in health economics and outcomes research, and strong quantitative, computational (e.g. TreeAge, SAS, Excel), and problem solving skills. Strong research design, methods, and data analysis skills. Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent interpersonal and team participation skills. Strong communication (verbal and written) skills. Demonstrated ability to independently and/or collaboratively conduct and manage health economic research projects. Clinical knowledge of cardiovascular disease preferred. Knowledge of regulatory, reimbursement and policy issues surrounding cardiovascular drugs and devices, a plus.
