Associate Dean for Research: Drexel University School of Public Health

The Drexel University School of Public Health invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean for Research. The candidate who fills this tenured faculty position will provide vision and leadership to the School around its research mission. The National Science Foundation and the Lombardi Report rank Drexel University among the top 50 private comprehensive research universities and the US News and World Report list Drexel as one of its top five “schools to watch.” The University currently has sponsored research expenditures exceeding $100 million and is committed to doubling this within the next several years. The Drexel University School of Public Health is the only accredited School of Public Health in eastern Pennsylvania. It is comprised of four Departments (Community Health and Prevention, Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Health Management and Policy) and houses 28 tenured or tenure track faculty. Since fiscal year 2000 the School’s sponsored research expenditures have increased nearly four fold. The School seeks to continue to build its extramural funding and extend its reputation for scholarly excellence while maintaining its commitment to practice based research.
Responsibilities:
The Associate Dean is expected to be a visionary leader who can catalyze and facilitate innovative and meaningful research efforts at the School. Duties include:
- Serving as a resource for School faculty seeking to develop strategic research initiatives and respond to emerging opportunities.
- Cultivating research partnerships with other University units and with academic and nonacademic research entities outside the University.
- Building relationships with local, national and international foundations and facilitate communication and interaction with federal funders.
- Acting as a liaison to the Vice Provost for Research and representing the School in University wide activities relating to the research mission.
Requirements:
Candidates must qualify for a tenured appointment at Drexel University. They must have a terminal degree in a public health field or in a field closely related to public health. They must have a record of success as an extramurally funded researcher in a relevant public health area. Experience planning, implementing, and sustaining comprehensive interdisciplinary research centers or programs is highly desirable. Research administration experience is helpful but not necessary. All candidates should be committed to promoting a culture that nurtures diverse forms of inquiry and scholarship.
