Senior Health Economics Project Leader

Location: Manchester, United Kingdom

My client is an international provider of consulting solutions within the Life Sciences. As a result of their continued business growth, we are assisting them in seeking a senior health economics (HE) professional, with the enthusiasm and vision required to play a key role as part of a dynamic internationally-focused team. They currently have a group of approximately 25 health economists, of which 10 are currently based in the UK. The purpose of this post is to continue their business expansion in the area of health economics within the Manchester office.

The candidate selected for this position will:

  • Independently, develop HE and HTA-based submission proposals and successfully manage projects, based on a thorough evaluation of client specific requirements. Examples of such projects would include the development of economic analyses, value demonstration strategies and submission dossiers under the NICE STA/MTA, SMC, AWMSG or NCPE processes in the UK.
  • Proactively developing strong and continuing relationships with clients, both in the UK and the wider European market.
  • Work in close collaboration with the evolving UK-based Market Access team, covering submissions work outside of the UK.
  • Actively support the strategic development and growth of their HE and HTA-submission based services in the UK, and in related international markets.
  • Contribute to the professional development and mentorship of their junior research staff.
  • Continue to build a scientific profile and key opinion leader stature, through publications and presentations.

Candidates should have excellent technical, interpersonal and English-language communication skills (both written and oral), preferably developed within a consultancy, pharmaceutical industry, or a relevant academic-based environment.

In addition, candidates for this post will have:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. Health Economics, Health Policy, Health Technology Assessment, Economics, Operational Research).
  • At least 3-4 years of relevant experience related to reimbursement and regulatory approval submissions; European reimbursement and regulatory agencies (such as NICE, SMC, AWMSG or NCPE) or agencies such as CADTH.
  • A clear and committed team-based attitude to project work and career development.
  • Ideally, the candidate will be familiar and experienced in the use of results from economic modelling in support of HTA.

Working closely with the cross-functional European Brand Teams, the Outcomes Research Senior Manager/Director will be responsible for developing relevant, high quality Outcomes Research strategies and programs support business needs of brands and products in development.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated track record of high performance in operations management and producing outstanding results as a team and/or functional group leader
  • Proven ability to facilitate open discussion and debate among key stakeholders and build internal and external relationships through partnering, anticipating needs, fulfilling expectations
  • Broad knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare environment

Qualifications:

  • At least masters level degree in an OR related discipline (e.g. health economics, epidemiology, health services research, public health or policy);
  • Experience within OR/EBM/HTA and experience within another pharmaceutical industry function area or the healthcare sector (e.g. within a health ministry, provider institution or HTA authority); demonstration of key competencies and track record are also important for selection;
  • Proven track record in developing and delivering business relevant OR programmes and materials;
  • Knowledge of European healthcare systems, pharmaceutical funding policies and drug development;
  • Ability to communicate OR strategy, activity and results to ensure understanding by non-OR colleagues;
  • Realistic understanding of how OR data can be leveraged in different decision making systems in Europe;

  • Cultivating research partnerships with other University units and with academic and nonacademic research entities outside the University.
  • Building relationships with local, national and international foundations and facilitate communication and interaction with federal funders.

Requirements:

Candidates must qualify for a tenured appointment at Drexel University. They must have a terminal degree in a public health field or in a field closely related to public health. They must have a record of success as an extramurally funded researcher in a relevant public health area. Experience planning, implementing, and sustaining comprehensive interdisciplinary research centers or programs is highly desirable. Research administration experience is helpful but not necessary. Position:

You will join an expanding team of health economists in the Departments of Social Medicine and Community Based Medicine. This post offers an excellent opportunity for a junior health economist with a particular interest in randomised controlled trials to contribute to empirical and methodological research within two exciting initiatives.

1) Bristol Randomised Trials Collaboration (BRTC) is a UKCRC-registered clinical trials unit. You will contribute to BRTC’s portfolio of high quality clinical research, particularly in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of economic evaluations within large-scale randomised controlled trials of healthcare technologies.

2) The MRC Collaboration and innovation for Difficult or Complex randomised controlled Trials (ConDuCT) Hub’s remit is to develop innovative research methods for the design and timely delivery of randomised controlled trials.

In collaboration with senior hub researchers, you will develop methodological research related to economic evaluation of RCTs.

It is expected that you will use the experience gained to apply for a PhD studentship. You should have a good undergraduate or Masters degree in health economics or closely related disciplines, knowledge of current methodological issues relevant to economic evaluation alongside RCTs, and research ideas with potential for exploration in a PhD. Funding for the post is available for three years in the first instance.
