Two Full-Time Post-doctoral Research Positions in Healthcare Management: Ulm University in Germany

The newly established Collaboration in Healthcare Management at Ulm University in Germany invites applications for: Two Full-Time Post-doctoral Research Positions in Healthcare Management (or as part-time research/PhD positions for Master’s degree holders)*.

Ulm University, a leading medical and natural sciences university in Germany, is seeking two post-doctoral candidates for the newly established collaboration in Healthcare Management. This concentration brings together the medical and the business school at Ulm University to develop expertise in healthcare management. The candidates will work directly for the newly appointed professor of healthcare management and controlling at Ulm University and contribute to developing the teaching and research program. Candidates will participate in domestic and international collaborations with leading academic and medical institutions. Ideal candidates will possess academic or practical healthcare management experience and an understanding of the healthcare market, but need not come from a healthcare background. Candidates can expect the position to open doors for healthcare administration in Europe and the U.S.

Responsibilities:

One of the two candidates will have a Qualitative and the other a Quantitative focus. The Qualitative expert will take a lead on management and execution of research, recruit subjects, synthesize and present outcomes and establish networks. The Quantitative expert will design and conduct research (data collection, analysis and synthesis). Both candidates will assist in teaching. Work is conducted in English. Knowledge of German is not necessary, but is considered a plus.

Qualifications:

  1. Candidates will hold a PhD in the social sciences, healthcare management/administration, management, sociology, psychology, anthropology or similar field (Qualitative); economics, biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, psychology or similar field (Quantitative) -or- a Master’s degree in equivalent fields with a minimum of 2-3 years of work experience. Candidates will have the option to work part-time and complete a PhD degree*
  2. Strong project management, communication and interpersonal skills (Qualitative)
  3. Experience in statistical methods and test theory; proficiency in statistical software such as SPSS or SAS (Quantitative)

Compensation:

Salary will be in accordance with the German state-regulated public service salary scale (TVL-13) which includes comprehensive health and retirement benefits.

Start date:

Ideal start date is April 1 or later (flexible); two-year contract with the option of extension.

Candidates must be willing to relocate to or near Ulm. Ulm is located in southern Germany, close to the Alps, Munich and Stuttgart. *Non-PhD holders: Candidates without a PhD have the option to complete a PhD at Ulm University while working part-time in the described positions. The professor of health management and controlling will act as the PhD candidate’s academic supervisor. To enroll in the PhD, candidates need to hold a Master’s Degree in a related field and propose an adequate research topic to the academic supervisor.
