Statistician/Economist: University College London and The Anna Freud Centre for CAMHS (EBPU)

The CAMHS Evidence Based Practice Unit EBPU is a dynamic, expanding and friendly academic unit, currently consisting of 14 research staff. It is part of University College London (UCL) and the Anna Freud Centre (AFC), and is based at AFC. Established in January 2006, the unit aims to undertake, develop and disseminate the latest research relating to helping children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, and their families. This involves undertaking major international and national data collection both as part of research projects and practitioner learning collaborations.
The unit is seeking to expand its work in relation to analysing large multi-informant datasets and also to exploring further the cost-effectiveness of health, social care and education interventions for children and their families.
The ideal candidate will be willing and able to undertake both economic and statistical analyses to support the work of the unit. Candidates with expertise in one of these areas only will be considered provided they are willing and able to undertake training, and then subsequently provide support to the unit, in the other area as well. We would also be willing to consider applications for this post on a part-time basis, e.g., to provide either economic or statistical support to the unit, for up to 3 days a week.
The post holder will play a key role at the unit in working with colleagues to extend analyses of existing and future datasets and undertake economic analyses. The post holder will be encouraged to make links with colleagues across UCL and AFC with an interest in statistical modelling such as Professor Peter Fonagy and Dr Pasco Fearon and to interact with other health economists at UCL, including Professor Stephen Morris.
We are looking for someone who is highly organised, detail focused and thorough with a commitment to working with complex datasets. The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, have clarity of communication and time management skills are all also vital.

We wish to recruit a health economist with strong analytical skills to undertake economic evaluations in two projects. One project is a NIHR HTA funded study working with Lily Yao. The study is to conduct economic evaluations alongside a randomised controlled trial. The post will involve statistical analysis of the clinical trial data for economic evaluation and developing a decision analytic model to extrapolate economic implications beyond the trial. The work will provide an opportunity to carry out methodological research relating to economic evaluation, especially use simulation modelling approaches based on earlier trial data to predict long-term economic outcomes. The other project is a European Union funded project working with Richard Lilford. This study is evaluating service changes to make care safer and builds on methodological work from our group. The project will involve incorporating utilities and probabilities and conducting value of information analysis.
Applicants should have a Master degree in economics and should have quantitative skills in statistics or operational research. Experience in decision analytic modelling or Bayesian decision theory, and a track record of publications are desirable. Good communication and writing skills are essential. The post is for two years in the first instance but likely to be extended to 4 years and beyond for another two years.

Senior Consultants and Global Project Leaders have explicit recognition as senior team members with management responsibility for the on-time delivery of creative cost-effective proposals, projects or components of multi country large, complex HEOR projects, and for some or all of the deliverables of the project team. They are responsible for mentoring, coaching and development of more junior staff within and outside project teams - including multiple countries where applicable.
Candidates are expected to have proven direct or related experience in consulting and consulting methodologies, tools and techniques within the pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry as well as in managing complex, sometimes multi-country projects. A strong grounding in outcomes research/economics/health economics is essential as is knowledge of key issues and developments within the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry.

Senior Manager Global HEOR: Eisai

The Senior Manager Global HEOR will be responsible for conducting and communicating all necessary HEOR activities and studies throughout the product life cycle to demonstrate the value of Eisai’s products to key stakeholders and to optimise pricing and reimbursement and market access. This person will be responsible for conducting and communicating all critical projects throughout the product life cycle to optimise market access for Eisai’s products, including, but not limited to: early economic modelling to inform target product profiles and product development decisions, early and late stage pricing research, core value dossiers and late-stage cost-effectiveness and budget impact models. The Senior Manager Global HEOR will provide HEOR strategic input to key product teams (e.g. IPTs) and product documents, such as Drug Development Plans, GRASPs, and GMMS Commercialisation Plans. This person will select, implement and report all HEOR endpoints (health-related quality of life (HRQoL), healthcare resource utilisation (HCRU), etc.) in phase II, III & IV studies
- Degree in medicine, pharmacy, life sciences, economics or statistics
- Post-graduate qualification (Masters degree minimum) in a healthcare decision science: health economics, epidemiology, decision sciences, health psychology, health services research
- At least 3 years of practical experience in conducting and managing HEOR studies in an international pharmaceutical industry environment or consultancy
- Good experience of economic modelling projects, either as a modeller or project manager, especially cost-effectiveness models
- Experience of patient reported outcome (PRO) projects
- Practical experience of preparing health technology assessment (HTA) or pricing and reimbursement (P&R) submissions
- Good experience of the preparation and delivery of HEOR communications: abstracts, posters and presentations for scientific conferences; manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals

The Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco seeks an accomplished health economist to serve on the full-time faculty. The Institute includes a multidisciplinary faculty and staff of over 100 with international reputations as leaders in health policy research. The successful candidate will also receive an appointment in a School of Medicine academic department at UCSF appropriate to his or her research interests. Research collaborations with other academic units at UCSF, for example, the Departments of Medicine or Epidemiology and Biostatistics, will be encouraged. The position is in the in-residence series, which affords full academic status, primarily funded by extra-mural grants. Start up funds are available. Applications are due February 12, 2010, or until position is filled. Appointment will be at the Associate Professor level, or higher. International candidates will be considered.
Requirements:
Ph.D. in economics or related field and familiarity with economic models and methods consistent with an appointment in health economics.
National stature of his/her research program and peer-review publications.
Successful in working with policy officials and communicating beyond academic audiences.
Track record of building research programs through extramural support.
Successful mentoring of students, post-doctoral fellows, junior faculty, and research staff.
Ability to teach principles of economics through seminars, preceptorships, and occasionally, full courses.
Experience and interest in collaborating with colleagues who are not economists and developing collaborative projects involving clinicians and social scientists from other disciplines.
Areas of inquiry of particular interest include, but are not limited to, the economics of health care and health insurance, technology assessment, comparative effectiveness research, cost-effectiveness analysis, population health, and role of health care sector in the economy.
Major Areas of Responsibility: Research, teaching, university and public service, external fund-raising.
Required Qualifications: The minimum requirements are an earned doctoral level degree (PhD or DrPH or equivalent in economics or with a focus on economic issues); demonstrated research excellence and productivity sufficient to be appointed at the Associate Professor level or higher; and no less than 3 years teaching experience with strong evaluations.
