McMaster University is seeking an outstanding researcher to assume the Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis/Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Chair in Health Equity. The Chairholder will lead a dynamic and innovative research program focused on the production and communication of timely, relevant research that addresses the challenge of ensuring equity of access to health services and resources for the achievement of equitable health outcomes, fundamental and long-standing goals of the Canadian and Ontario health systems.
The Chairholder will hold a full-time appointment in the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (CE&B) with opportunities for cross-appointments with other University departments. The Chairholder will also be a member of the Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis (CHEPA), a world leader in the production and dissemination of knowledge about inequalities in health and health care and system responses (both health and non-health) to improve equity. The Chair is secured by a two million dollar endowment jointly funded by CHEPA, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University.
The Chairholder should be a mid-career scholar who leads a successful research program around the theme of equity in health services, systems and/or health. Emphasis on the application of rigorous research methods to examine and offer policy solutions to address inequities within or external to the health care system is of particular interest.
The Chairholder will have relevant disciplinary or interdisciplinary training from any of several relevant fields such as health policy, health economics, geography, ethics, or public health. Experience working collaboratively with health system decision makers and a strong commitment to improving public policy through research and exchange with policymakers are essential. The successful applicant will also have an excellent teaching and mentoring record.
