The School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Health Economics as part of its recent investment in the Centre for Public Health and in response to a major Department of Education and Learning led initiative to build all-island research infrastructure in the fields of chronic disease prevention and public health and, in particular, those related to diet, obesity and diabetes. The Centre for Public Health is a large multidisciplinary research centre within the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences. Much of its work is related to the strategic plans and work-streams of the UKCRC Centre of Excellence for Public Health (NI), a broader collaboration of academics within four other Schools, including Queen’s University Management School and partners outside the University and in the practice and policy communities, including the Institute of Public Health in Ireland. Both the Centre for Public Health and the Centre of Excellence will oversee programs of innovative research that will change public health and healthcare practice and policy, leading to an improvement in the health of the population, a decrease in the burden of chronic illness and an improvement in the health related quality of life of patients living with chronic disease.
In addition, the Department of Education and Learning is supporting infra-structure for an all-island Diet, Obesity and Diabetes research programme that is bringing together expertise from Queen’s University Belfast, the Institute of Public Health in Ireland and the new National Research Centre for Diet, Obesity and Diabetes, led by University College Cork (NRC-DOB).
As part of this investment, the University is making a number of strategic academic appointments to develop and extend research strengths in Health Economics, particularly in relation to the evaluation of public health programmes and interventions related to chronic disease, with the aim of building an internationally recognised programme in Health Economic research in these fields. The appointee will be based in the Centre for Public Health in the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences.
Further criteria will be given in the further particulars for the post.
