General Purpose:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment and take on a leadership role. Direct, coordinate and supervise multi-faceted research programs in the economic evaluation of addiction services. Function as the project leader and/or coordinator of a research team investigating the economic burden of substance use among women, and the subsequent economic benefit of an integrated physical/behavioral treatment model. In a clinical research setting, work with a team of doctors, nurses and research assistants, while managing datasets, supervising research assistants and working independently to liaise with collaborating research groups. Oversee protocol development, implementation and follow up; perform data collection, reporting and data analysis. Manage grant funds and finances in compliance with research regulations.
Position Description:
- Independently responsible to coordinate, plan and manage study/research execution, including day-to-day operations of research. Ensure adherence to study protocols and study milestones.
- Co-create, develop and implement databases in Microsoft Access and Excel to manage patient data. Collaborate with study data manager in database design and data analysis.
- Serve as a liaison between coordinating research program, their respective study staff and EPH. Serve as the primary liaison with NIH funding authority, PI and other researchers to communicate progress and to troubleshoot situations that fall outside of the boundaries of the study.
- Supervise research and data management staff, including training, performance appraisal process, performance review, progressive discipline and dismissals. Develop and oversee staff activities and assure compliance with appropriate University and union policies and procedures.
- Act as primary point of contact for all investigators and study personnel. Establish time lines for completion of tasks and regularly review work to ensure project deliverables are met in timely fashion.
- Participate in all data collection processes as necessary, including organizing information, data entry, generating worksheets and summary of data.
- Communicate and interact with data programmer/database manager to ensure the smooth running of operations; communicate with investigators and research staff at multiple sites in order to discuss and collaborate on methodologies; effectively communicate with other organizations involved in the study to ensure study goals are understood and accomplished.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure accurate collection and processing of data; prepare study/research reports for data quality control.
- Implement methods for monitoring and reporting study progress, enrollment, productivity goals and budget.
- Generate monthly reports of study progress, assigned activities for administration and Principal Investigator; work with EPH business office to track research expenses and manage budgets.
- Interact and liaise with Yale’s HIC regarding the preparation and maintenance of research protocols. Assist in preparation of protocols and protocol amendments in conjunction with PI and appropriate committees.
- Work with PI to draft papers or portions of reports for publication; compile data, analyze results and compose analyses related to the study including status reports, graphics, analyses, slide presentations and reports related to the study.
- Participate in writing new funding proposals by contributing to key elements of proposal development, including performing literature reviews and summarizing research progress, coordinating assembly of grant and HIC submission, contributing to writing of non-scientific or technical portions (budget, bibliographies, background statistics) and assembly of all supporting materials (letters, biosketches, appendices).
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in a specific discipline and two years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience supervising a multi-disciplinary staff.
- Prior knowledge and understanding of research methodologies in clinical and/or public health settings
- Preferred: Doctoral Degree in a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; research administration background with working knowledge of federal guidelines, research and compliance regulations, budgets and budget justification; thorough knowledge of University and medical school organizational policies, practices and procedures, grant and contract administration and research compliance guidelines.
