Reference number: BY09013
Salary: grade 8, £36,532-£47,666 p.a (or grade 7, £28,839-£38,757 p.a with appropriate change in duties)

The Health Economics Research Centre (HERC) in the Department of Public Health, University of Oxford, wishes to appoint an ambitious and experienced senior researcher to work on a programme of research in the area of blood transfusion. The programme of work is funded by grants from the National Institute for Health Research and is available for 3 years in the first instance. HERC is a thriving group of 16 health economists, with a varied research programme that currently emphasizes the methodology and application of economic evaluation to health interventions, disease modelling, adult and child health outcome measurement and valuation, health care decision making, genomic technologies and international health systems evaluation. The successful candidate will be able to take advantage of the University of Oxford’s many strengths in economics and medical sciences, and HERC’s extensive collaborative links in Oxford, nationally and internationally.

The post will see the successful applicant involved with the health economic components of three large projects in the area of blood transfusion. Together these projects offer the potential to develop and utilise a range of different health economic methodological approaches including trial-based economic evaluation, data collection through observational studies and decision analytic modelling. The post holder will be encouraged to become involved in other HERC studies and teaching activities and to continue with their ongoing interests as far as possible. The post is available immediately, for 3 years in the first instance. Research assistance is also available.

Candidates should have strong graduate and postgraduate qualifications, an excellent publication and research record in health economics or a related field (health services research, applied microeconomics / microeconometrics, epidemiology, statistics), experience in disseminating research findings and teaching and a proven track-record in obtaining research funding. If no suitable applicants are identified at Grade 8, the post may be offered at Grade 7 with an appropriate change in duties.
