Background

Penn Medicine is a $3.6 billion enterprise with over 18,000 faculty and staff dedicated to the interrelated missions of medical education, biomedical research, and patient care. Overview of the Role

The University of Pennsylvania Health System seeks a Special Assistant, Health Policy Support reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The position requires strong financial analysis skills and experience in health care policy issues.
The individual must bring exceptional intelligence and successful experience navigating in complex organizational settings.

The position will require a capable candidate who is comfortable working with highly successful professionals in health care, business and government. In this capacity, the successful candidate will leverage his/her in-depth knowledge of health care policy in the preparation of presentations, briefing documents and publications on behalf of the chief executive officer.

Professional Qualifications and Experience

  • At least two years of progressive experience in health care policy—with well developed knowledge of federal and state supported programs;
  • Knowledge of health care payment and funding models for academic medical centers;
  • Experience in preparation of national, state and local health policy briefing documents—including Medicare and Medicaid;
  • Experience in the preparation of update documents for senior leadership and the board; and
  • Possess an advanced degree or a BA with significant related experience. Degree preferably in health administration, public policy, business, law, public health or medicine.

Personal Qualities and Skills

  • Strong technical and quantitative skills in financial analysis;
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex information in clear and concise terms;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written presentations and publications;
  • Strong, well-honed political/diplomacy skills;
  • High energy and ability to meet project timelines;
  • Orientation to detail and commitment to excellence; and
  • Excellent situational judgment.

Compensation

Compensation for this position will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
