Faculty and Post Doctoral Positions: Cancer Economics/Modeling Research

Location: Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Washington, DC
Start dates: July 2009 or January 2010

The Cancer Control Program of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in Washington, DC is seeking health economics and simulation modeling investigators to join our cancer health services research program. Post-doctoral candidates and junior and mid-level faculty considered. Tenure track positions available for qualified candidates.

The health services program includes NIH-funded research on patterns of cancer care, decision aides for older cancer patients, simulation modeling, decision analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, preferences, QOL and survivorship.

Candidates are sought with training and expertise in health services related disciplines, with a special emphasis on modeling, health economics and health policy. Minimum requirements include a doctoral degree with a track record of research publications and extramural funding potential.

The successful candidate will join a highly interdisciplinary department of oncology and a cancer control program with active research in cancer prevention, screening, genetic testing, cultural determinants of health, survivorship, lifespan development/aging, and community outreach. Strong mentorship available for post-doctoral and junior candidates.

Project Researcher Position Health Economics/Policy Research

Location: Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Washington, DC
Start date: July 2009

The Cancer Control Program of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in Washington, DC is seeking a staff person to conduct research evaluating the most effective and cost-effective ways to reduce cancer mortality and cancer-related disparities in mortality.

Responsibilities involve developing economic data inputs for national policy simulation models, such as time costs, treatment costs, and intervention costs, using existing data sets or collection of primary data. Other responsibilities include data management and quality assurance, coordinating project activities, participation in analyses evaluating the effectiveness of alternative approaches to reducing cancer mortality, writing reports and communication results to a wide range of stakeholders.

Candidates are sought with training and expertise in public health disciplines (e.g., health economics, health services research, health policy, modeling, decision analysis). Minimum requirements include a master’s degree in public health, experience working with health data, and excellent communication and analytic skills. Detail orientation and organization essential. Experience with simulation modeling a plus.
