Senior Researcher - diabetes modelling Grade 9, Salary £42,351-£49,096 (or Grade 8 £36,352-£43,622 with appropriate change in duties)
The Health Economics Research Centre (HERC) in the Department of Public Health, University of Oxford, wishes to appoint an ambitious and experienced senior researcher to lead a programme of research on diabetes modelling. The programme of work is funded by a grant from the Medical Research Council and is available for 3 years in the first instance. HERC is a thriving group of 16 health economists, with a varied research programme that currently emphasizes the methodology and application of economic evaluation to health interventions, disease modelling, adult and child health outcome measurement and valuation, health care decision making, and international health systems evaluation. The successful candidate will be able to take advantage of the University of Oxford’s many strengths in economics and medical sciences, and HERC’s extensive collaborative links in Oxford, nationally and internationally.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a central role in the evolution of the United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) Outcomes Model, a leading diabetes model already in use internationally for a wide range of applications. The person appointed will lead a programme of work to develop, validate and disseminate a new version of the model, in collaboration with health economists, epidemiologists and diabetologists in Oxford and elsewhere. The post is available immediately, for 3 years in the first instance. Dedicated research assistance is also available.
Candidates should have strong graduate and postgraduate qualifications, an excellent publication and research record in health economics or a related field (applied microeconomics / microeconometrics, computer modelling, operational research, epidemiology, statistics), and a strong track-record in obtaining research funding. If no suitable applicants are identified at Grade 9, the post may be offered at Grade 8 with an appropriate change in duties.
