Assistant Professor, Tenure Track: Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR) at The University of British Columbia (UBC)
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
The Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR) at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a new tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant must demonstrate potential to be internationally recognized for advancing policy-relevant research and for excellence in teaching graduate (and possibly undergraduate) courses. S/he will be appointed as an assistant professor (tenure track) in UBC’s new School of Population and Public Health, effective July 1, 2009 (or no later than January 1, 2010).
CHSPR conducts research, training, knowledge translation, and data development related to health services research and health care policy. Our focus is on population-level analyses – the ways in which health care services can best be organized, funded and delivered to promote the health of populations. CHSPR promotes an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to research and training, recognizing that problems in health systems and policy transcend traditional academic boundaries. We pride ourselves in using innovative and collaborative approaches to generating reliable and independent evidence on issues that matter to the health of Canadians. Our faculty and students regularly interact with decision makers to ensure that our work is relevant and therefore has impact. Yet, CHSPR’s diversified sources of public and non-profit financial support ensure the independence necessary to be critical and credible.
We seek a health services researcher and/or health care policy researcher with a doctoral degree in any relevant discipline. Applicants must have specific expertise in one or more of the following health care-related areas: health human resources, access to appropriate care, quality and safety, health care politics and policy processes, or systems-level research relating to primary care or chronic disease management. Applicants must also have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: use of large administrative healthcare databases, survey research methods, or program/policy evaluation methods. If this describes you, if you are determined to have a significant impact on scholarship and policy, if you have excellent communication and partnership development skills, and if you see yourself as someone whose contributions will complement and advance CHSPR’s mission, we are interested in hearing from you.
