Health Economist

Our client is a medical device manufacturer with domestic and international operations, based in San Antonio TX. We are looking for a Health Economist who can develop cost effectiveness strategies for medical device products for the international market.

Background sought:

  • Masters in Public Health, Health Policy or Health Economics; will also consider Masters in Economics with professional experience in health care or PharmD.
  • 2 - 3 years experience in medical device health economics or government health care financing policy analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistics, research methods, budget impact models, QALY models, and Markov models.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of International healthcare policy-making & financing processes, the medical device industry, and health economics strategies and implications for healthcare stakeholders.

My Client is an international consultancy and due to the continuously growing demand is looking to expand its Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) team in Belgium. They are looking to recruit a Senior Health Economics Consultant, with particular expertise in Economic Modeling, to develop complex cost-effectiveness models (e.g. decision trees, Markov models) and budget impact models.

Job Description

  • Develop complex cost-effectiveness models (e.g. decision trees, Markov models) and budget impact models
  • Develop, execute and manage small- and large scale HE studies
  • Develop proposals for HE studies
  • High quality communication of HE research (study report writing, manuscript writing, oral presentations)
  • Mentoring junior staff members

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of proven practical expertise in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (modeling and observational studies)
  • Demonstrated thorough skills in modeling software (e.g. Excel, TreeAge, @risk, Visual Basic, ARENA)
  • Clinical background and/or graduated with a Master degree in Health Economics is definitely an asset
  • Profound understanding, expression and applying HE evaluation concepts and methods
  • Familiar with discrete event modeling
  • Familiar with Quality of Life assessments
  • Working knowledge of health care reimbursement processes is an advantage

Personal Skills:

  • Fluent Dutch/English or French/English (written and spoken), and preferably also Dutch/French
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment as well as independently
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong sense of responsibility
  • Excellent management skills

Global Pricing & Market Access Director (UK Based)

We are seeking an individual who has already built a strong career within P&R / Market Access and is now seeking their next challenge within a global team.

Description

The purpose of this role is to drive the payer perspective into brand strategy and implementation. For brands in development: design and develop Pricing & Market Access strategies and Value Packs and integrate into overall brand strategy. Work with Clinical and HEOR to design value demonstration support plans and integrate the planned output into brand strategies and communications.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

General accountabilities:

  • Champion the payer perspective and drive it into brand strategy and implementation
  • Ensure appropriate involvement of other P&MA team members and leadership in payer-related brand deliverables
  • Co-lead the global Value Teams alongside global commercial lead
  • Develop payer communication plans and work with other brand team members and marketing companies as they integrate and deliver this through their communication activities
  • Communicate project issues and progress effectively and in a timely manner to all stakeholders including European Market Access Action Team, EMT, CRB using all media, including meetings
  • Comply with company policies, standards and procedures in every interaction

For brands in development :

  • Define pricing and market access options for strategic markets for lead indications and that optimize the value of life cycle management opportunities
  • Provide a clear commercial evaluation of each strategic option, balancing risks and benefits for the brand
  • Deliver credible, commercially viable payer and patient value stories for key payer types in strategic markets that R&D can build their evidence base on
  • Provide Pricing and Market Access leadership in Emerging and brand teams to ensure all relevant pricing and value issues are integrated into strategies and plans
  • Collaborate on the development and specification of the pricing and market access strategy, value story and supporting evidence base
  • Develop clear, customer-focused Value Packs and other core global value materials and ensure acceptance by influential markets i.e. US, first launch markets, UK, Canada, Australia
  • Finalise clear, customer-focused Value Packs and other core global value materials
  • Ensure local plans and dossiers of influential markets (eg US, first launch markets, UK, Canada, Australia) are effectively co-ordinated and that the use of key clinical evidence is consistently applied and interpreted across markets
  • Provide any necessary revisions to pricing and market access strategies and value stories that optimize the value of life cycle management opportunities
  • Design and support a range of appropriate payer collaborations in ISMO and NA that will help customers understand the full value of the brand Lead, drive and ensure full and timely delivery of outsourced P&MA projects within budget

Minimum Requirements – Education and Experience

  • Graduate /College degree in biomedical science, business or economics
  • Knowledge of the needs and expectations of regional payers, insurers and commercial customers in strategic markets
  • Good knowledge of the clinical and value demonstration approaches used by R&D in providing support for price and access
  • Experience of leading cross- functional teams to deliver and communicate innovative customer solutions based on detailed customer insight
  • Experience of developing concise and audience-focused communications, both written and for presentation
  • Able to develop models for quantification of scenarios and risk eg financial models, economic/clinical model
  • Experience in a marketing company in a commercial strategy function eg managed markets brand director, business development director, head of pricing/access
  • Experience working with clinicians, pharmacists and payers on evidence based customer solutions eg through working with local payers in Europe or commercial customers in the US

Assistant Professor, Tenure Track: Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR) at The University of British Columbia (UBC)

The Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR) at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a new tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful applicant must demonstrate potential to be internationally recognized for advancing policy-relevant research and for excellence in teaching graduate (and possibly undergraduate) courses. S/he will be appointed as an assistant professor (tenure track) in UBC’s new School of Population and Public Health, effective July 1, 2009 (or no later than January 1, 2010).

CHSPR conducts research, training, knowledge translation, and data development related to health services research and health care policy. Our focus is on population-level analyses – the ways in which health care services can best be organized, funded and delivered to promote the health of populations. CHSPR promotes an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to research and training, recognizing that problems in health systems and policy transcend traditional academic boundaries. We pride ourselves in using innovative and collaborative approaches to generating reliable and independent evidence on issues that matter to the health of Canadians. Our faculty and students regularly interact with decision makers to ensure that our work is relevant and therefore has impact. Yet, CHSPR’s diversified sources of public and non-profit financial support ensure the independence necessary to be critical and credible.

We seek a health services researcher and/or health care policy researcher with a doctoral degree in any relevant discipline. Applicants must have specific expertise in one or more of the following health care-related areas: health human resources, access to appropriate care, quality and safety, health care politics and policy processes, or systems-level research relating to primary care or chronic disease management. Applicants must also have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: use of large administrative healthcare databases, survey research methods, or program/policy evaluation methods.
