Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences

Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

The University of Alberta invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The appointment, for an initial five-year term, begins July 1, 2009.

The University of Alberta in Edmonton is one of the top 100 public teaching and research universities in the world serving some 37,000 students with more than 14,000 faculty and staff. Founded a century ago, the university has an annual budget in excess of $1 billion and attracts more than $490 million in external research funding. It offers close to 400 undergraduate and graduate programs in 18 faculties.

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has a major research profile, strong undergraduate and graduate programs, and several associated institutes and spin-off companies. The Faculty is recognized as a leader nationally and internationally by its peers for the quality of its program of pharmacy education, including its innovative approaches to teaching at all levels; the quality of its research in selected areas of the pharmaceutical sciences and of pharmacy practice; and the quality of its continuing education and distance delivery programs.

The Dean is responsible to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) for the supervision and administration of all activities of the Faculty, including the budget. The Dean will provide strong and innovative leadership within the Faculty, promote collaboration with other Faculties, and continue building strong partnerships with external constituencies, federal and provincial agencies and organizations, and other universities.

Candidates must possess wide-ranging expertise and skills, including: proven leadership and administrative abilities; an earned doctorate with a strong record of contributions in their field; proven commitment to excellence in teaching and research; and experience in external relations. Candidates must also be committed to working closely with national and provincial professional pharmacy organizations.

The Committee will begin consideration of candidates in November 2008. Nominations and applications should be submitted in confidence to the address shown below.
