Assistant and Associate Professor (tenure track faculty positions): UNY Downstate Medical Center

Location: Brooklyn, New York, USA

UNY Downstate Medical Center invites applications for tenure track faculty positions of State-funded lines at the Assistant and Associate Professor ranks. SUNY Downstate currently offers MPH, MD/MPH, and DrPH degrees. The successful candidate will conduct research, obtain extramural support, collaborate with others in the Medical Center, teach and mentor Masters, Doctoral students and Fellows; and publish in peer reviewed journals. Basic requirements include a doctoral level degree, funded research, and teaching experience.

DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH POLICY AND MANAGEMENT

We seek candidates with expertise in health economics and health care management for tenure-track positions as explained below but will also consider candidates from other disciplines including political science, public policy, medical sociology, and health law. All candidates should have an interest in urban health care issues.

Health Economics: We seek a health economist with generalist knowledge and interest in health policy. Candidates should have experience with funded research and publication and a desire to collaborate with others and apply health economic skills to policy and management issues.

Areas of interest to the Department include: outcomes research, cost of health care, health program evaluation, state and international comparisons and institutional analysis. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

Health Services Management: We seek a scholar interested in the assessment and evaluation of management skills in the health care environment. Candidates should have experience with funded research and publication and a desire to collaborate with others in the Medical Center.

Areas of research interest include: organizational change, compensation for physicians and executives, P4P, labor force issues, strategic planning, future of the health care system in the U.S. and abroad. Rank will be commensurate with experience.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY HEALTH SCIENCES

The Department of Community Health Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor. Candidates should have an interest in urban and immigrant health issues. We are interested in recruiting faculty with expertise in the design and evaluation of health promotion programs, strong qualitative and/or quantitative skills, a commitment to addressing health disparities in urban and immigrant populations, and a research portfolio within public health or a closely related discipline.

DEPARTMENT OF EPIDEMIOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics invites applications for tenure track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant and Associate Professor.

Biostatistics: Basic requirements include a doctoral level degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or related field, teaching experience, strong record of, or high potential for, independent, methodological research and scientific collaboration. Applicants with research interests in the area of statistical methodology for observational studies, clinical trials, categorical data, miss-ing data, statistical genetics, and experience in collaborating on multi-center studies are especially urged to apply. The faculty member will be expected to provide statistical expertise and leadership in the design, monitoring, and analysis of epidemiological and genetic studies, some of which have a multi-center nature, as well as collaborating on studies using existing registry data.

Epidemiology: Basic requirements include a doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health or related discipline, post-doctoral training, teaching experience, strong record of, or high potential for, independent methodological research and scientific collaboration. We seek candidates with research experience and peer reviewed publications in epidemiology, population science, and biomarkers applied to human studies. Preference will be given to candidates with federal funding, and a track record of independent research in the epidemiology of health disparities, disease etiology, gene-environmental interaction and disease occurrence and outcome. The successful candidate will conduct research, obtain extramural support, collaborate with others in the Medical Center, teach and mentor Master’s, Doctoral students and Fellows; publish in peer reviewed journals, and participate in department and medical center activities.
