Research Scientist: BC Cancer Agency, Cancer and Health Economics Research Program

The Cancer and Health Economics Research Program investigates a wide range of issues in health economics, services, policy and outcomes research, with a focus on cancer and cancer-related health care. The program is currently home to nine health economics/ services researchers, and has funding to double its size in the next five years.
You will lead key aspects of research projects working with a team of multidisciplinary researchers, including health economists, epidemiologists, statisticians and clinicians. You will be able to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
Specifics of your role include: conducting economic analyses of cancer screening interventions; developing decision analytic and statistical models of local cost, utilization and outcomes data (and data from the literature) to be used in economic analyses; performing systematic literature reviews; writing grant and ethics applications, as well as technical reports and contributing to articles for publication; developing a portfolio of applied and/or methodological research over time.
You ideally have Master’s degree in a related discipline (economics, statistics, epidemiology or relevant health discipline) plus at least one year of experience with health research projects. Your experience in statistical, decision analysis or econometric modelling is complemented by computer competence that includes decision analysis and statistical programs, Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Essential to the leadership aspects of your role will be effective oral/written communication, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills, plus the ability to exercise initiative, confidentiality and judgement. Given the multiplicity of concurrent projects, adeptness at multi-tasking is important, as is accuracy and attention to detail.
The following would be desirable:
- a track record of modelling in health care decision-making and academic publication
- experience in conducting economic evaluation
- a working knowledge of health care systems in Canada.
