Research Fellow/ Senior Research Fellow: University of South Australia

Location: Adelaide CDB, South Australia

  • 12 month fixed-term contract, 0.6 – 1.0 negotiable,

  • Position to commence in November 2008

The Health Economics and Policy Group within the Division of Health Sciences is committed to a dynamic research culture through a cross-disciplinary approach leading to high impact and high quality research to deliver real health solutions.

The successful applicant will be working for 12 months primarily on a 4 year child protection project. Given the scale, seriousness, scope and complexity of child abuse and neglect, the study will estimate the performance of a range of child protection interventions drawn from health, welfare and education sectors. The aim is to contribute to evidence to inform child protection policy. The three main phases of research to address this are: Scoping of child abuse and neglect and intervention options; Cost effectiveness analyses, and Strategic implications.

The project is funded through an Australian Research Council Grant, and this position will involve research into the first and second phase. It is an exciting opportunity to build on your expertise and research interests.

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced researcher in cost-benefit or cost-effectiveness analysis, to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate interventions for preventing child abuse, neglect and ameliorating harms, and who has a passion for improving the health and wellbeing of our children.

Applicants must have:

  • Current working entitlement in Australia
  • Postgraduate qualifications in health economics or a related field
  • A good working knowledge of quantitative research methods
  • Excellent written skills in English
