Health Economist: Management Sciences for Health, Center for Health Programs
Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA
Overall Responsibilities
The Health Economist will provide guidance and technical assistance for the health financing and economics activities of MSH. S/he will represent MSH in meetings and public forums on financing and economics issues and topics, provide guidance on quality of the company’s health financing-related work, and serve as a resource for project staff working on financing and economics assignments. Specific areas of work will include the costing of health programs and services, and the design, development and evaluation of performance-based finance and community-based insurance programs
Specific Responsibilities
- Oversee and guide health financing and economics assignments.
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to projects.
- Represent MSH on health financing issues.
- Serve as a resource to project personnel on issues of design, methods, interpretation of data, etc. related to financing.
- Assist with the development of new business.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3 + years of relevant experience with a Masters Degree in health economics, economics, or public policy with a concentration in economics.
- Demonstrated experience in developing countries, preferably related to USAID-funded projects or activities funded by other international assistance organizations.
- Demonstrated experience in presenting financing issues to policy makers in Ministries of Health and high level representatives of development assistance organizations.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Written and oral proficiency in English and one of the following: Spanish, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and participate in team assignments that cut across disciplines, including political science/governance, organizational development/capacity building, financial management/accounting, and public health planning and administration.
- Ability to travel overseas on short-term assignments.
- Published in peer reviewed journals on health financing topics in developing countries desired.
