Research Coordinator (Canada)

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

A research team funded by a Drug Innovation Fund grant from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care is seeking a Research Coordinator to facilitate research in oncology economic evaluation. The position will be based in downtown Toronto, and will focus on retrospective database analysis and requires experience in health services research. The ideal candidate would have some acquaintance with, knowledge of, and interest in health economics.

This project intends to study the real-world cost, effect, and cost-effectiveness of several cancer drugs currently funded by the Ontario government. In particular, we plan to study the real world cost and patient benefits associated with these drugs.

The primary role of the Research Coordinator is to perform research activities involving project design and management of the analysis of large data sets from administrative databases. This position requires excellent writing skills and the ability to work with biostatisticians, health economists, study coordinators and investigators to assist in conducting retrospective database research studies.  The Research Coordinator will report to the Principal Investigators and must be flexible and have excellent problem solving skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and undertake the collection and analysis of study-related data.
  • Assist investigators in the interpretation and implementation of study protocols.
  • Prepare paperwork (e.g., privacy assessment) required for the initiation and conduct of individual studies.
  • Contribute to proposal development, preparing statistical analysis plans, report writing and presentation of research findings where necessary.
  • Coordinate research activities in collaboration with investigators.
  • General project management including managing budget, timelines and deliverables.
  • Ensure appropriate regulations are adhered to in the conduct of research.
  • Work collaboratively with internal team members, external stakeholders and consultants.
  • Assist investigators in the initiation of new research.

Qualifications:

  • Postgraduate degree in health services research or postgraduate degree with minimum of 2 years work experience in health services research.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Working knowledge of statistical programming and basic statistical analysis preferred.
  • Experience working with large administrative data sets preferred.
  • Competent in the use of computer software packages along with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong initiative with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and balance multiple projects.
  • Some knowledge of health economics.
