Background to the company and our offerings
This company has been established for over 10 years and provides management consultancy services to the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. It specialises in research among healthcare payers to assist refinement of pricing, reimbursement and market access strategies.
They have specialist writing affiliate and have an experienced team of medical writers.
Value dossiers are the companies core product offering and have developed dossiers for more than 50 major products. Although these are specialist deliverables, much of the content is transferable from more traditional medical communications e.g. disease background and clinical data. Training can be provided on those areas that are less familiar.
They also produce market access newsletters, formulary materials, publications, disease area reviews and commercial assessments. Therapy area experience covers all major areas.
This position reports to the Associate Director.
Duties and responsibilities
- You will work as part of a team of writers on the development of Value Dossiers for global pharmaceutical company clients. We work for most of the top 10 companies.
- The work is varied and involves multiple projects covering a range of therapy areas.
- Each dossier aims to communicate the clinical, economic and wider benefits of treatment with a specific product to an internal audience.
- Dossiers are a blend of commercial and scientific content but usually include the following areas:
- Disease background
- Definitions, classification, epidemiology, current treatments, guidelines, competitive environment, unmet need
- Clinical evidence
- Summary of efficacy and safety data from the clinical trials
- Quality of life
- Summary of quality of life data (if available)
- Health economics
- Description of health economic modelling work and budget impact
- Disease background
- Completed documents are intended to help company personnel in pricing and reimbursement negotiations with local authorities.
- Other duties may also include: attending and writing reports for advisory board meetings, background literature reviews, slide kits and short reports relating to consultancy activity.
- Typical tasks for a project include:
- Cataloging client-supplied source materials and management of references
- Undertaking literature reviews
- Planning document structures
- Writing fully referenced content
- Developing visuals and graphics (training can be provided)
- Editing and quality assurance
- Document formatting
- Development of summary slide kit
- Liaising with other members of the writing team and the Project Director
- Project management
- Client contact

Requirements
- A post graduate qualification in health economics or international health policy ideally backed with a first degree in a life science and relevant work experience, or a graduate with 2-3 years consultancy or other work experience in the pharmaceutical sector.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – both written and oral – and be willing to work independently as well as within a team. Language skills would also be useful.

European Health Economist, UK

Job Summary: My client is a well regarded international Pharmaceutical company with a global presence. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a European Health Economist in the UK.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities in the role will include:
- Develop and conduct high quality research programs and regularly evaluate products for health economic assessment possibilities
- Determine treatment patterns through database studies and in-depth interviews with practicing ophthalmologists in order to gain an understanding of resource utilization pattern
- Conduct analyses of published literature in support of project planning and analysis
- Design, conduct, analyze, and report all types of retrospective and prospective economic and patient-reported outcome studies including the incorporation of appropriate endpoints into clinical trials.
- Develop economic models
- Support marketing activities by providing information demonstrating the added value of drugs /devices
- Support local affiliates in the preparation of their Pricing and Reimbursement dossiers
- Publicly present, and achieve journal publication of, study results
Expertise Required
- Demonstrable expertise in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry or in a consultancy serving these sectors, in a health economics related function
- Track record of public presentation of study results and successful journal publication of results
- Compatibility with and knowledge of European HE guidelines and pricing
- Clinical development experience will be highly regarded
- Knowledge in biostatistics / epidemiology will be beneficial
- Ability to use statistical software (e.g. SAS, BMDP, SPSS, Statistica, etc) and / or model software (e.g. TreeAge) will be beneficial
- Demonstrated ability to appropriately manage study resources
- Fluency in English is required. Additional languages would be beneficial
