An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Economics Manager based in the UK. The main responsibilities involves providing health economics leadership and developing and implementing health economics evidence to support sales, marketing and reimbursement in order to promote the profitable growth of the business.

Job Summary:

The post-holder has accountability for providing health economics support to facilitate sales growth in one of the most important market sectors.

The post is located in the United Kingdom, but the post-holder will have responsibility to support the business worldwide. He/she will be required to work closely with reimbursement and/or sales teams in international markets in order to ensure that economic evidence is available to support sales growth worldwide.

The candidate is also part of a global team of health economics specialists. The candidate will have a dotted-line reporting relationship with the Vice President of Health Economics.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities in the role will include:

  • Develop health economics evidence for products which is relevant in key international markets, in order to support local sales teams and to promote the growth of the business.
  • Work with Key Opinion Leaders to design or advice on studies intended to create new economic evidence in support of products.
  • Ensure that economic evidence is accessible to sales reps and is presented in a way which is easy to understand. Ensure that sales reps are properly trained to enable them to be confident in presenting economic arguments.
  • Ensure evidence is available in an appropriate form to support applications for reimbursement and/or funding for new and existing products. This accountability requires close working with reimbursement/government affairs managers and new product development teams both centrally and in key markets.
  • Provide advice to new product development teams and Strategic Marketing, including estimating the potential economic value of proposed new developments and recommending a price range to ensure cost-effectiveness. This will include advice on the type of economic evidence which will be required to demonstrate economic value to customers and/or to obtain reimbursement.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of sources of funding for AWC and related products in major markets and monitor key trends which are likely to affect the business in the future - including trends in health technology assessment. Ensure information is disseminated within the business.
  • Work with the Vice President of Health Economics to promote the external image of the company as an industry leader in health economics. This will include writing papers for submission to peer-reviewed journals and presenting at national or international conferences.

Expertise Required

  • Postgraduate qualification in economics or health economics (Master’s level or higher).
  • Experience of applied health economics in a commercial setting.
  • Recent senior experience working in the healthcare market and/or the medical devices industry.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to respond quickly and flexibly to the needs of customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to think tactically and strategically
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to provide coaching and development support to a team of specialists
  • Participative leadership style.

Position Summary: Strategic Research conducts scientific investigations of the health services and health economics issues critically important to CVS Caremark, our customers, and our internal colleagues. Our team leverages a vast set of data resources and employs the most rigorous and sophisticated research methods and analytical techniques available, with the ultimate goal of producing meaningful and actionable intelligence and formal research products.

The role of the Research Analyst is to provide comprehensive support to Strategic Research from idea conceptualization through dissemination of findings. The individual will have solid training in health services research methods including literature review, study design, and scientific writing. A familiarity with pharmacy and medical claims data will be valuable, as will data manipulation experience. The Research Analyst will have a command of econometric analysis, with companion programming skills in either Stata or SAS. Applicants with health economics backgrounds and prior publication experience will be especially attractive candidates.

Qualifications

  • General knowledge of economics and more specifically health economics.
  • General knowledge of healthcare and more specifically the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Specific training and experience in conducting econometric analysis using SAS or preferably Stata.
  • Familiarity with advanced analytical techniques used to help overcome the limitations of observational data.
  • Ability to communicate research methods and results into publishable manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues to achieve team goals.
  • Ability to learn quickly and think critically.
  • Ability to manage own time, be flexible, and when appropriate seek guidance.
  • Skilled at translating complicated research and analytical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, technical information and concerns.
  • Demonstrated “thirst for excellence” (i.e., quality and success).

Education: Master’s degree in economics, health services research, public health, or other highly-related discipline.

Experience: Three years of research and analytical experience is required. Equivalent experience may have been gained in the process of completing a college curriculum or associated research projects, such as a thesis or dissertation.
