Health Economics Manager (UK-based): Smith & Nephew

Salary in the range £40k-£48k plus benefits

Smith & Nephew is a leading international medical devices company with operations in 33 countries and more than 8,000 employees. Advanced Wound Management is one of four Global Business Units with responsibility for research and development, manufacturing and marketing of advanced wound care products worldwide.

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced health economist to join the Advanced Wound Care (AWC) strategic business unit. The role is based in the UK but the post-holder has responsibility for providing health economics leadership to the AWC business worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop economic evidence for products in the AWC portfolio in order to support in-market sales teams and promote the growth of the business.
  • Work with key opinion leaders and the AWC Outcomes Research team to advise on the design and reporting of clinical/economic studies.
  • Provide advice to new product development teams and strategic marketing, including estimating the potential economic value of proposed new product developments.
  • Maintain an understanding of sources of funding for advanced wound care products in major markets and monitor trends (including trends in Health Technology Assessment) which may affect the business in the future.
  • Work with the Vice President of Health Economics to produce publications in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and/or international conferences.
  • Be an active contributor to the international network of health economists working within Smith & Nephew.

Requirements

  • Postgraduate qualification in economics or health economics, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 5-yrs experience of applying health economics in a commercial setting. Experience of medical devices and/or pharmaceuticals would be an advantage.
  • A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals would be an advantage.
