Health Outcomes & Pharmacoeconomics Manager
Position Summary: The Health Outcomes & Pharmacoeconomics (HOPE) Manager provides strategic direction in the development and implementation of economic evaluation and outcomes research strategies for selected Company products, both investigational and marketed, that are key to the United States healthcare marketplace. This individual works closely with both global and US functions including R&D/Clinical Development, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Global Health Economics, Regulatory and others to ensure that our key U.S. products have robust pharmacoeconomic information and analyses.
Position Accountabilities
The following are essential job accountabilities:
- 60% Develop and execute a cross functional strategic plan to generate, analyze & disseminate relevant pharmacoeconomic and health outcomes information through:
- Desk research evaluations such as meta-analyses and modeling studies that demonstrate economic benefit and value of Company products
- Proactively recommend the inclusion and analysis of cost or outcome parameters in late-phase clinical trials in order to ensure the availability of at least minimum of HE evidence.
- Design, compile, synthesize and interpret evidence for health outcomes and pharmacoeconomic analyses of Company products or in the Company’s areas of therapeutic interest and focus.
- 35% Provide expert pharmacoeconomic support and responses to internal and external stakeholders in the form of:
- Internal consultation and project completion
- Internal and External Group guidance on HOPE issues and plans
- Internal and External Presentations
- 5% Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Job Specifications
Minimum Education:
- First university degree (BSc or higher) in a biomedical or economics discipline.
- Extensive training in health economic methods and techniques, preferably through a postgraduate degree
Minimum Experience/Capabilities
- Sound understanding of clinical research
- Understanding of the structure and dynamics of the U.S. pharmaceutical marketplace
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Previous U.S. healthcare industry experience
- Strong experience in working in cross-functional matrix teams
Preferred Experience/Capabilities
- Clinical healthcare experience preferred (RN, PA-C, RPh, PharmD, MD, DO)
- One year pharmaceutical industry experience
- Experience in direct interaction with health system decision makers that utilize pharmacoeconomic information such as practitioners, P&T committee members, Formulary committees, Managed Care personnel, etc.

Social Scientist, Health Economist or Health Policy Researcher: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Location: Atlanta, Georgia, USA
Social Scientist, Health Economist or Health Policy Researcher: Serves as a scientific officer in the Prevention Development and Evaluation Branch (PDEB), Division of Violence Prevention (DVP), National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC), providing expert consultation on health policy research related to the prevention of child maltreatment, sexual violence, intimate partner violence, youth violence, or suicide prevention. Develops grants, contracts or cooperative agreements with institutions of higher education, community-based organizations and other governmental and non-governmental health agencies. Independently designs and conducts research to examine the cost and effectiveness of policies designed to prevent violence. PhD or other terminal degree in criminology, economics, health policy, political science, sociology or related field required.

Advanced Wound Management is one of four Global Business Units with responsibility for research and development, manufacturing and marketing of advanced wound care products worldwide.
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced health economist to join the Advanced Wound Care (AWC) strategic business unit. The role is based in the UK but the post-holder has responsibility for providing health economics leadership to the AWC business worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop economic evidence for products in the AWC portfolio in order to support in-market sales teams and promote the growth of the business.
- Work with key opinion leaders and the AWC Outcomes Research team to advise on the design and reporting of clinical/economic studies.
- Provide advice to new product development teams and strategic marketing, including estimating the potential economic value of proposed new product developments.
- Maintain an understanding of sources of funding for advanced wound care products in major markets and monitor trends (including trends in Health Technology Assessment) which may affect the business in the future.
- Work with the Vice President of Health Economics to produce publications in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and/or international conferences.
- Be an active contributor to the international network of health economists working within Smith & Nephew.
Requirements
- Postgraduate qualification in economics or health economics, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 5-yrs experience of applying health economics in a commercial setting. Experience of medical devices and/or pharmaceuticals would be an advantage.
- A record of publications in peer-reviewed journals would be an advantage.
