Director of Market Access & Business Development

Location: London, England, UK

Barrington James has been asked to represent a leading European Market Access organization within the Healthcare market. We have been assigned to source and select professionals with a Pharmacoeconomic background for a Director of Market Access and Business Development position which will be based at their London office in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • To manage external client relationships
  • Contributing to the overall financial health of the business as well as effectively developing and managing staff.
  • Utilising expert knowledge and understanding of Market Access issues, and be able to generate future business.
  • Having a strategic business overview of Market Access
  • Monitoring budgets
  • Ensuring profitability of the team,
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Full understanding of budget control and financial management
  • Creative proposal writing
  • Maintaining and developing existing client relationships
  • Initiating new client relationships and developing sales strategy for growing the business

Experience / Qualifications

  • Have strong technical knowledge of Market Access, Funding, Reimbursement, Pricing Strategies, Payer research, (for UK, other EU countries and the US), ideally with interviewing experience within these areas.
  • Have an excellent knowledge of the NHS; be familiar with requirements for NICE/SMC submissions and be comfortable with pharmaco economic and clinical data.
  • Have the ability to develop and disseminate a core set of tools for Market Access activities
  • Able to identify and exploit new business opportunities. Be a trusted source of ideas/information for clients and able to establish trust and credibility with prospects.
  • Extensive knowledge of advanced research techniques and able to recommend use of advanced/non-standard techniques
  • Demonstrate creative thinking in approaches to research techniques and solutions, delivering results to clients, opportunities to win new business
  • Excellent communicator. Be able to deliver impactful presentations to senior audiences (internally and externally). Have a good rapport with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • Excellent people skills. Have the ability to manage a team effectively, deal with difficult situations, be seen to be fair and act in a professional manner. Encourage a positive team spirit. Be a strong role model.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely for journals, client publications etc. Excellent written skills in all forms of communication.

4 NIMH-funded Postdoctoral Fellowships in Mental Health & Substance Abuse Systems and Services Research: University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill/Duke University Medical Center

Four NIMH-funded Postdoctoral Fellowships in Mental Health & Substance Abuse Systems and Services Research. Faculty from several UNC schools and the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Duke. Seeking economists and other social scientists and clinicians interested in applying research methods to the systematic analysis and evaluation of mental health services and public policy issues. The emphases of the training program are the organization, integration, financing, utilization, quality, and evaluation of mental health care services; criminal justice-mental health interfaces; and violence, severe mental disorders and the law.

Well-funded research environment with excellent opportunities for collaboration and publication with faculty. Program seeks to recruit new PhDs and faculty/doctoral-level persons with a sabbatical or leave of absence who are looking to develop/strengthen mental health research skills.

Up to four fellowships are available each year. Stipends for 2007-2008 year: $36,996 to $51,036 (depending on years of post-PhD experience) with additional compensation for research-related work possible. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide scientific oversight and quality assurance of late phase studies (e.g. health economics, outcomes research, registries, and interventional studies).

  • Provide overall support, performance management, and career development guidance to direct and indirect reports.
  • Provide support to Business Development.
  • Manage personal career development and administrative tasks.

Qualifications:

  • A master’s or doctoral degree in health services research (HSR), health economics, epidemiology, sociology, psychology or equivalent, PharmD or MD plus 3-5 years of research experience in academic, CRO or consulting environment.
  • Minimum 5-6 years of research experience.
  • Minimum 5 –6 years of project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience in project management of teams across multiple functional areas
  • Experience designing research studies involving collection of patient-reported outcomes using survey research methodologies
  • Experience conducting research utilizing secondary data sources a plus.
  • Knowledge of Institutional Review Board processes, HIPAA, Good Clinical Practice/ICH Guidelines and other applicable regulatory requirements
  • Strong interpersonal savvy and the ability to build relationships both internally and with Customers
