The National University of Ireland, Galway seeks to appoint a Professor of Health Technology Assessment within the Department of Economics. The individual appointed will have a proven track record in Health Technology Assessment and/or Health Economic Evaluation and will be expected to form and lead an active research group in Health Technology Assessment. The individual will be expected to collaborate with health and medical researchers across the university. The new appointment will make a contribution to the Department’s teaching in the broad area of health economics. He/she should also make a contribution to various teaching programmes in other Departments that require a health economics input.

The successful candidate must have a PhD or equivalent in Health Economics or a related quantitative discipline of evaluative health services research. S/he must have a strong track record in generating peer reviewed funding and should have a strong publication record in leading economics and/or health journals. S/he will be expected to initiate new postgraduate programmes in health economics or related areas and to supervise PhD students. The successful candidate will also be expected to forge strong research links with statutory agencies such as the Health and Information Authority (HIQA). Health Economists - Research and Consultancy: Office of Health Economics (OHE)

Location: UK

The Office of Health Economics (OHE) wishes to recruit two well qualified, highly motivated and energetic health economists to contribute to all three of the OHE’s core activities:

  • peer-reviewed research
  • consultancy
  • advising the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry

Both health economists will undertake and present economic and policy analyses. They will be expected to keep up to date with developments in the area of health technology assessment (HTA), in terms of methodology and its practical use. The scope is both UK and international. One of the posts will be at a senior level. The senior economist will take an active role in winning research and consultancy funding for the OHE. The OHE offers flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should have:

  • a good first degree, preferably in economics;
  • a postgraduate qualification and practical experience in health economics;
  • understanding of the economics of medicines: their research and development, production, sale, regulation, prescription and use;
  • demonstrable ability to write and deliver clearly argued analyses within tight deadlines.

In addition, the senior economist must have demonstrable experience of selling research and/or consultancy.

The OHE is a London based economic research and consultancy organisation, founded in 1962 by the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry to provide advice on the economics and policy of: the pharmaceutical industry; health care systems; and the evaluation of medicines and other health technologies.
