Faculty Positions in the Department of Health Management and Policy: Saint Louis University, School of Public Health

Location: St Louis, Missouri, USA

Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, healthcare, and service invites applications for three tenure track faculty positions (rank open) in the School of Public Health, in:

  1. Health Finance,
  2. Health Policy, and
  3. Managerial Decision Science or Health Informatics.

  • Health Finance: Applicants should have research interests in operational financial systems and health policy that affect the delivery of health services and/or the impact of these systems on the cost, quality and access to health services. Candidates with a demonstrated record of experience, extramural funding and scholarly publication in these areas are preferred. Teaching responsibilities will include health finance, corporate finance, the financial aspects of managed care, and health care accounting. Applicants should have a doctoral degree or other terminal degree in health finance, health economics, health policy, or a related field. Preference will be given to a terminal degree in finance with experience in the health care sector. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

  • Health Policy: Applicants should possess a strong record of experience in health policy and considerable skills in the methods of health policy analysis and research. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree with training in health policy or health services research or doctoral level training that led to expertise in health policy. The applicant should have a productive record of research publication and demonstrated ability to secure extramural research funding. Candidates should have substantial expertise in one or more of the following areas: the public policy making process; health care financing and health insurance reform; or the interaction of the political process with health policy development. Teaching responsibilities will include health policy, the politics of health care, and courses in their area of interest.

  • Managerial Decision Science or Managerial Health Informatics: Applicants should have research interests in strategic health management, quantitative management, or health/medical informatics that affect the delivery of health services and/or the impact of these systems on the cost, quality and access to health services. Candidates with a demonstrated record of experience, extramural funding and publication in these areas are preferred. Teaching responsibilities will include health care operations, managerial decision making, managerial health informatics, and courses in their area of expertise. Applicants should have a doctoral degree or other terminal degree with an emphasis in quantitative management, quantitative decision sciences or a related field. Preference will be given to a terminal degree in the listed areas plus experience, extramural research funding and scholarly publications in the health care sector. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The Department of Health Management and Policy was founded in 1947 and houses one of the oldest Master of Health Administration programs in the United States. It is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME). The Department has eight full-time faculty members with research programs related to Medicare and Medicaid, managed care implementation, access barriers to health services, governance of health services organizations, rural health services, quality or care, global health management and genetic epidemiology. Students in the Department seek masters and doctoral degrees in health administration, health policy, and health services research. The School of Public Health was established in 1991 and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The School offers the M.H.A., M.P.H., M.S., Dr.P.H. and Ph.D. degrees. The Division of Health Policy offers a master’s of public health (MPH) degree and Ph.D. degree in Public Health Studies with a concentration in Health Policy, focusing on all aspects of U.S. health policy and preparing students to analyze health policy.
