Business Analyst IV
Summary:
The person in this position will work independently to analyze and forecast HPHC medical expenditures for all company programs.
In particular, the person will:
- develop and document procedures for analyzing and forecasting medical expenditures, prepare and present ad hoc and periodic formal reports of medical expenditure analyses and forecasts, and help company-wide teams understand and apply the results of medical expenditure analyses and forecasts.
The person should have a strong healthcare and analytical background, including:
- familiarity with healthcare service reimbursement concepts and terminology;
- solid understanding of statistical concepts, including regression analysis, confidence intervals, and trend analysis;
- solid understanding of business financial statements and concepts;
- experience working with large data sets; and
- experience analyzing and forecasting medical expenditures.
This person in this position will:
- Prepare and present periodic formal reports analyzing and forecasting components of medical expenditures, including utilization, unit cost, mix of medical services, and leverage.
- Develop, document, and maintain uniform procedures for analyzing and forecasting medical expenditures.
- Provide ad hoc analyses and forecasts to support management decision-making related to medical expenditures.
- Provide ad hoc analyses, forecasts, and other support to help various company areas (including actuarial, financial planning, new product development, medical management, pharmacy, product development, and provider contracting) understand and apply analyses and forecasts.
Requirements:
The position requires broad knowledge of — and an ability to apply — fundamental concepts, practices and procedures in medical expenditure analysis and forecasting. Such knowledge and ability are typically acquired through:
- Graduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, Public Health, Health Services or equivalent, or Designation as an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA)
- 7-10 years of business experience or exposure, preferably in a managed-care or a provider environment.
- Must be proficient in the use of SAS, SQL, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft PowerPoint. Experience with the following is desirable:
- Use of business visualization tools such as the SAS Institute’s JMP product
- Software programming and software engineering, Data mining, Predictive modeling
- Competencies: Must have experience in medical expenditure analysis and forecasting.
Also required are strong interpersonal skills, effective communication and presentation skills, and the ability to lead and work in a team environment. Strong analytic skills are needed, as well as an ability to handle multiple competing deadlines, and to produce quality work with short turn-around times when necessary. The candidate must be comfortable working with and presenting to all levels of management, as well as communicating with outside constituents and business partners.
