Visiting Health Economist position: Newcastle University
Location: Newcastle, England, UK
Closing date: 31 December 2006
The ESHER (Economics of Safety, Health, Environment and Risk) research programme was established in the Institute of Health and Society at Newcastle University in August 2002 under the leadership of Cam Donaldson (Health Foundation Chair in Health Economics). Through the ESHER programme, the health Foundation funds a ‘health economist in residence’ scheme whereby visitors can come to Newcastle for periods of 1-3 months. The scheme funds personal expenses and some salary replacement. Combining health economists within the Institute of Health and Society and economists in the Newcastle University Business School, ESHER undertakes a unique portfolio of internationally-collaborative work on:
- applied economic evaluation of public sector interventions aimed at improving well-being;
- development of contingent valuation methods for eliciting public preferences for such interventions;
- development and application of economics-based priority setting frameworks in health organisations; and
- explaining health inequalities.
The work is funded from a range of competitive sources.
We are looking for visitors during calendar year 2007. If you would like to be considered for this, you can contact Cam Donaldson (cam.donaldson@ncl.ac.uk) for more details or send a CV and a one-page outline of your interests to Anita Tibbs (anita.tibbs@ncl.ac.uk). We are happy to receive enquiries and applications up to 31st December 2006.
