Canada Research Chair Tier II: Health Economist: Dalhousie University
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Closing date: 15 May 2006
Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Medicine invites applications for a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Health Economics. The incumbent’s research program will be based in the Canadian Centre for Vaccinology and the Department of Medicine, with a primary academic appointment in the Department of Pediatrics or Medicine. Dalhousie’s Faculty of Medicine is a centre of excellence with internationally recognized clinical and research expertise. There are active collaborations across faculties and with the Nova Scotia Department of Health. In 2003 and 2004, The Scientist magazine placed Dalhousie among the top five places in the world, outside the United States, for postdoctoral work and scientific research.
The incumbent will have the opportunity to develop and further their own research agenda working with multidisciplinary colleagues particularly in the Canadian Centre for Vaccinology, and the Cancer Outcome Research program or other major research program of the Department of Medicine. Depending on the incumbent’s interests, research areas could be related to health policy, economic evaluation, cost effectiveness analysis related to systematic reviews, clinical trials and epidemiological studies. The incumbent would have the opportunity to develop research along-side the many health policy research studies and clinical trials undertaken by the Faculty, and to utilize the unique large population-level databases maintained by the Population Health Research Unit for broader health policy or health systems research.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline, with preference given for specialization in health economics, have a substantial record of peer-reviewed publication, and will demonstrate evidence of an independent ability to attract research funding. The Canada Research Chair (CRC) Program is supported by the Government of Canada and was established to enable Canadian Universities to achieve the highest levels of research excellence. Information about the program may be found at http://www.chairs.gc.ca. This position is a research chair with very limited requirement for teaching beyond occasional seminars and supervision of graduate students.
Candidates should have the potential to become acknowledged international leaders in their discipline. The salary and rank will be based on qualifications and experience. The appointment will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on the qualifications and experience of successful candidates. The start date is expected to be 2007.
