Economist: US Census Bureau

Location: Washington, DC, USA
Closing Date: 31st March, 2004

The Census Bureau's Center for Economic Studies (CES) anticipates an opening for a Ph.D. (or an advanced ABD) economist interested in carrying out self-directed research using data from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey - Insurance Component (MEPS-IC). This annual, nationally representative survey of employers collects data on health insurance benefits. These data can be linked to other confidential business microdata collected by the Census Bureau. Interaction with survey staff on issues of survey content and methodology is expected and encouraged. Candidates with backgrounds in health, industrial organization, and/or labor are particularly appropriate, and those with knowledge of health insurance are especially encouraged to apply. The mission of CES is to produce and support empirical research on a wide variety of topics in applied microeconomics, including (but not limited to) productivity, firm behavior, labor, health care, energy, and environmental. Publishing in scholarly journals and presenting research at seminars and conferences is expected. Submit vita and a research paper demonstrating strong empirical skills. Electronic submission of materials is strongly recommended.

US citizenship is required. An equal opportunity employer.
