Job Summary: The Standard for Management Information Systems in Canadian Health Service Organizations (MIS Standard) are a standardized framework for collecting and reporting financial and statistical information on the day-to-day operations of health service organizations in Canada. The MIS Standard Program Consultant is responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting the MIS Standard through national and provincial/territorial committee participation, research and analysis, review of relevant documents such as implementation plans, and the planning and delivery of education and other activities that support the use of the MIS data standard across Canada.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In a team environment, participates in Issue Management programs by leading and doing research and analysis on projects relating to enhancements to the MIS Standard.

  • Ensures the effective implementation of the MIS Standard at the facility level through participation in planning and implementation committees and the review of implementation plans and documentation.

  • Develops and maintains profiles with provincial and territorial governments and associations, including liaison with provincial MIS Coordinators and develops and maintains appropriate national and provincial level contacts.

  • Develops and delivers MIS education workshops and provides ongoing support through the resolution of queries.

  • Attends, coordinates and supports the activities of advisory and working groups.

  • Analyzes the data submitted to the Canadian MIS Database to assess and monitor the quality of compliance to the MIS standard.

  • Participates in activities to market and promote the organizations products and services.

  • Develops workplans, providing regular progress and change reports.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Education at the Master’s level in health services or business administration or, designation as a Chartered Accountant, Certified General Accountant, or Certified Management Accountant, or equivalent education/experience.

  • Three to five years experience at a middle management level in health care.

  • Strong conceptual knowledge of management information systems in health care and of project management.

  • Strong Knowledge of the MIS Standard is an asset.

  • Well-developed research skills.

  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office products.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.

  • Fluency in both official languages—verbal and written—considered an asset.

  • Ability to fulfill travel requirements.
