The Health Economics Research Centre (HERC) in the Department of Public Health, University of Oxford, wishes to appoint a senior researcher. HERC is a flourishing group of 14 health economists, with a varied research programme that currently emphasizes the methodology and application of economic evaluation to health interventions, disease modelling, adult and child health outcome measurement and valuation, the economics of genetics, and health care decision making.

This post will initially involve working on three trial based economic evaluation projects, all funded by the NHS Health Technology Assessment Programme. Each of these projects may have an important effect on UK health policy and practice:

  1. alternative treatments for macular degeneration,
  2. rotar cuff surgery and
  3. intranasal steroids in children.

During the appointment, the successful applicant will have day to day responsibility for the three projects, working with a research officer and another senior researcher. The successful applicant will be encouraged to participate more broadly in HERC’s portfolio of research and teaching activities.

The successful applicant will have completed a masters degree and preferably a doctorate in health economics or a related field (for example, applied micro-economics/micro-econometrics) and have experience of managing health economics projects and a successful publication record in peer-reviewed journals. The post is available immediately, for 3 years in the first instance.
