Association Manager (Brussels): Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER)

Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER; http://www.aspher.org/) is seeking a qualified and enthusiastic person to organise and lead its new office in Brussels, starting from 1 November 2007 or as soon as possible.
ASPHER was founded 41 years ago and has more than 70 institutional members in more than 25 countries of the European Region, in- and outside EU. Members are Schools of Public Health, universities, institutes and other organisations and institutions in the field of Public Health education and training. ASPHER provides a dynamic framework for academic discussion about the development and quality assurance of training programmes and capacity building in Public Health.
In addition to the regular Annual Conference in September/October and the Deans’ and Directors’ Retreat in May, ASPHER activities include:
- Advocacy for the development of Public Health education and training in Europe;
- Stimulation and support of cooperation between members;
- Evaluation (‘PEER review’) of PH training programmes, preferably Master of Public Health (MPH) programmes;
- Development of European Accreditation of PH training programmes;
- Development of lists of core competencies achieved in PH training programmes;
- Coordination of the European Master of Public Health (EMPH) programme;
- Summer schools and short courses;
- Collaboration with:
- The World Health Organisation (WHO) and EU (especially DG SANCO and DG
Education:
- A range of other European NGOs in the health field;
- Sister organisations in other parts of the world, including North and South America and the Asian-Pacific Region;
- Other organisations.
Under the responsibility and coordinated with the activities of the President, the specific core responsibilities of the association manager will include:
- Day-to-day administration of the Association, including economic administration;
- Coordination of the Association’s activities;
- Providing administrative support and participation (calling; agenda; minutes; circulation of material; etc.) related to Executive Board meetings, General Assemblies, Annual Conferences, Deans’ and Directors’ Retreats, project groups, etc.;
- Supporting the Association’s strategic development;
- Following the PH development in Europe and in other parts of the world;
- Administer and edit the Association’s web-site and other means of external communication and PR;
- Run the Association’s membership and other databases;
- Supporting the development of financial and other resources and actively seeking external resources for project support;
- Servicing members in accordance with the Association’s mission;
- Recruitment of new members;
- Representing the association in work groups, planning groups and project groups;
- Representing ASPHER in international contexts;
- Taking care of PR activities and building a positive image of the Association;
The work language in ASPHER is English. Proficiency in other major languages will be advantageous. The Association Manager will be based in Brussels. We are seeking a candidate, who is a dynamic person with an academic background, i.e. a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Public Health, Economics, Political science, Administration, Business, or other relevant field.
The candidate should have strong communicative and organisational skills and be confident that this job will constitute a relevant intermediate step in a career in international European networks in the health field.
