Senior Research Scientist in International Health Economics: Health Economics Research Centre (HERC), Division of Public Health and Primary Health Care, University of Oxford

Location: Oxford, England, UK
Closing date: 27 April 2007

Grade 10, Salary £44,074-55,833

The Health Economics Research Centre (HERC) in the Department of Public Health, University of Oxford, wishes to appoint an ambitious and experienced senior health economist to develop research and teaching in international health economics. This is a strategic investment by the Division of Public Health and Primary Health Care. HERC is a thriving group of 16 health economists, with a varied research programme that currently emphasizes the methodology and application of economic evaluation to health interventions, disease modelling, adult and child health outcome measurement and valuation, the economics of genetics, and health care decision making.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a central role in developing a long-term programme of research and teaching in international health economics. The person appointed will be able to build on the successful recent establishment of the Department’s MSc in Global Health Science, the presence of the Oxford Tropical Medicine Network with its permanent overseas research units, and the University of Oxford’s many strengths in economics and medical sciences. The post is available immediately, for 5 years in the first instance.

Candidates should have a postgraduate degree in economics, an excellent publication and research record in health economics or a related field (applied microeconomics/microeconometrics, development economics), a strong track-record in obtaining research funding, a commitment to teaching, and willingness to undertake overseas travel for field work and supervision. Previous research experience related to economics and health in low- or middle-income countries is highly desirable.

Further written information, which will contain details of the application procedure, is available from Stacey Bell (01865 289251) or by email to: personnel@dphpc.ox.ac.uk or from the HERC website at http://www.herc.ox.ac.uk/about/vacs. Informal enquiries may be made to Alastair Gray (01865 289279, email alastair.gray@dphpc.ox.ac.uk). Please quote reference BY07003 in all enquiries.

The closing date for applications is 27th April 2007. It is likely that interviews will be held during the week beginning 21st May 2007.
