Health Economist - Ottawa: The Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health (CADTH)
Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Reporting to the Director, HTA Development, the Health Economist is responsible for designing and conducting economic evaluations, budget impact analyses and reviews of published studies as part of health technology assessments, and reporting on the same. As well, the Health Economist will assemble and manage interdisciplinary teams of researchers to undertake economic analyses of health technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate the efforts of project team members to ensure project objectives are met on time. Select team members to ensure the required skill set is present and monitors efforts toward report completion
- Design and undertake economic evaluations, budget impact analyses, and reviews of economic evidence of health technologies and develop computer-based economic models to perform economic evaluations and budget impact analyses
- Produce required HTA reports
- Negotiate and manage contracts with external experts to support the quality and targeted quantity of economics reports. Liaise with external consultants and contractors and oversees their work;
- Represent CADTH at meetings, conferences and other events
- Provide input to and review draft sections and reports of other researchers, including project team members
- Maintain current knowledge of economic methodologies for the assessment of health technologies
- Produce publications in peer-reviewed journals
Qualifications: The minimum level of knowledge required is a Masters degree in economics, advanced training in the economic evaluation of health technologies, plus at least two years experience in health services research. Other combinations of relevant experience plus a graduate degree in a related quantitative discipline will also be considered.
- Skill in performing microeconomic analysis (in particular, economic evaluations and budget impact analyses
- Skill in computer-based economic and statistical modeling
- Excellent writing and communications ability
- Good project management skills with an ability to complete high quality work within established timelines and to work within multidisciplinary teams.
