Postdoctoral Research Training Program Has Positions Available!

U.C. Berkeley is currently offering advanced multidisciplinary training and education to outstanding economists, political scientists, sociologists, public policy and health professionals interested in this Health Services Research Training Program.

The Health Services Research Training Program promotes excellence by:

  • Equipping scholars with the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to conduct research that will meet the evolving needs of patients, providers, health care plans, purchasers, and/or policy-makers.

  • Mentoring trainees in the selection and administration of research topics in health services areas.

Stipends, support for travel, and health insurance for trainees will be provided. Trainees will work with Richard M. Scheffler, PhD, Director of the Nicholas C. Petris Center on Health Care Markets & Consumer Welfare, and Distinguished Professor of Health Economics & Public Policy.

Trainee Eligibility Requirements: Fellowships are open to Postdoctoral and mid-career scholars with health professional degrees (MD, DDS, etc.) and those with a PhD in economics, sociology, political science, public health, and public policy. Those with clinical backgrounds should have completed residency training. Proof of receipt of PhD certificate must be provided upon submission of application materials.

Trainees are required to pursue their research training on a full-time basis, devoting at least 40 hours per week to the program. Research trainees who are also training as clinicians must devote their time to the proposed research training and must confine clinical duties to those that are an integral part of the research training experience.

Citizenship: To be appointed to a training position supported by a NRSA research training grant, an individual must be a citizen or non-citizen national of the United States or must have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence, i.e., possess a currently valid Alien Registration Receipt Card I-551. Non-citizen nationals are generally persons born in outlying possessions of the United States (e.g., American Samoa). Individuals on temporary or student visas are not eligible.

Funding: This is a National Research Service Award (NRSA) training program funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

To apply: To request an application, interested candidates should contact our offices by calling 510-643-4100, emailing amynuttbrock@berkeley.edu or visiting our website at http://www.petris.org/trainingprograms.htm.
