Fulbright Program Announcement: 2012-13 Fulbright NEXUS Regional Program for the Western Hemisphere

The Fulbright Regional Network for Applied Research (NEXUS) Program will bring together a network of junior scholars, professionals and mid-career applied researchers from the United States and other Western Hemisphere nations for series of three seminar meetings and a Fulbright exchange experience. Scholars will spend up to one year engaged in collaborative thinking, analysis, problem-solving and multi-disciplinary research in one of three inter-related topics of regional significance: Science, Technology and Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Sustainable energy.
Projects focusing on climate change adaptation strategies, and/or public policy focused research ventures that examine strategies to cope with climate variability, including extreme events, are particularly welcome.
Fulbright NEXUS Scholars will conduct individual and team-based research projects, integrating perspectives from multisectoral stakeholders, to generate knowledge-based, policy-oriented solutions and implementation models at the national and regional levels.

Project description
The studentship is available to someone with a strong background and a research focus in one of the following areas of Economics:
- Applied econometrics
- Applied microeconomics, including industrial, regional and public economics
- Banking, empirical finance and risk management
- Financial markets, insurance and behavioural finance
- Health Economics, risk, safety, environmental and experimental economics
- Labour market economics and applications
- Macroeconomics, trade, FDI and international economics.

Value of the Award and Eligibility
The studentship will cover PhD fees at the home/UK rate and a level of subsistence equal to that provided by ESRC studentships (estimated rate of £13,590 in 2012/13) Applicants of UK/EU and International status can apply.
The holder of the studentship may have the opportunity to undertake a small amount of teaching within the School. Payment for this will be at standard an hourly rate in addition to the annual studentship.
Person Specification
Applicants should have a good Honours degree (first-class or upper-second-class Honours) in an area related to the proposed field of study. It would be an advantage if you also had, or expected to receive by Autumn 2012, a Master’s-level qualification at ‘credit’ or ‘distinction’ level in a relevant subject area.
How to Apply
You must complete the University’s postgraduate application form, selecting ‘PhD Newcastle University Business School (full time) - Economics’ as the programme of study and inserting the reference number NUBECON. Only mandatory fields need to be completed, but a full and detailed CV, an outline research proposal of around 1,000 - 2,000 words, and a personal statement of around 500 words setting out your reasons for applying. Applicants are encouraged to approach a member of staff relevant to their research area in the first instance, to discuss their interests, and with a view to working-up their outline proposal.

Masters in Economics: Aix-Marseille School of Economics AMSE

New master formation: Aix-Marseille School of Economics AMSE, a program in Health
The AMSE Master is a two-year Master program in Economics organized by Aix-Marseilles University, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, and Ecole Centrale de Marseille. It aims to provide high-level courses and training in the main fields of specialization of AMSE: Development Economics, Econometrics, Public Economics, Environmental Economics, Economic Philosophy, Health Economics, Finance / Insurance, Macroeconomics.
Health Economics, The purpose of the program is to train specialists in the domain of Health Economics. Master graduates in this field may obtain jobs in private consultancy firms, hospitals, the pharmaceutical industry, health insurances (Public, “Mutuelle” or complementary health insurances) and institutions for the regulation of the healthcare market. Graduates may also pursue their studies in the AMSE PhD program to embrace an academic career.
